Time to begin talking about Washington for the College Football Playoff?

They are currently up over #11 Michigan State 29-8 at halftime and are 2-0

They play a bunch of weak teams and only have to play Oregon and would be 12-0 entering the Pac 12 Championship game

They'd probably lose to Oregon, and even if they did beat Oregon, I doubt they'd beat USC/Utah (neither of whom they would face before the PAC-12 Championship Game).

The Rose bowl is doable, though, assuming they beat Oregon.

My playoff picks

Fiesta: #1 Missouri State vs #4 Washington

Peach: #2 Wake Forest vs #3 Kansas

Missouri State isn't even an FBS school.

How did I end up having a more realistic (as of week three) predictions than you?

There's a word in the dictionary, I think it's somewhere between saraband and sarcophagus.

Putting Missouri State there isn't sarcasm, it's just blatant trolling. Sarcasm would be something like Coastal Carolina (which realistically has the Cotton Bowl as it's ceiling) or maybe having four SEC and four Big Ten schools between the playoff and the other New Year's Six bowls, as while plausible, it's so unrealistic that whoever said it is probably being sarcastic.

I have a hard time seeing all four of these making it in, especially Tennessee; remember that Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee are all playing each other in the SEC East. Tennessee also plays Alabama. This scenario would require 9-3 Tennessee who had lost to Kentucky, Georgia, and Bama to be higher rated by the committee than any other SEC West team, Big 10 team or Notre Dame. I suppose its possible, but it seems unlikely to me.

Arkansas and Texas A&M both could be in the Sugar Bowl slot, and Wisconsin or whoever wins the Big Ten West if isn't Wisconsin, could claim the Orange Bowl slot, I suppose, but I have a hard time seeing Kentucky and Tennessee both being left out of the New Year's Six unless someone else finishes ahead of one of them in the SEC East (like Florida).

Upset Alert: #10 Arkansas beats (projected) #1 Missouri State

Missouri State may be (projected) #1 in the FCS (because that's what division they play in).

If Missouri State had won, the SEC probably would've invited Missouri State with an instant invite and kicked Missouri out so they could have the better Missouri

That's fine. They belong in either the Big Twelve or Big Ten from a sports perspective anyways (easy rivalries with Kansas/Illinois).

UF is currently making a complete fool of itself; keep playing like this and I'll have to stop treating the FSU game as an easy UF win.
Of course it's not an easy win, FSU is a playoff contender given they are 3-0, unless of course Nebraska hires Mike Norvell as the Big Ten West is easier to win than the Atlantic Division. However, I could also see FSU hiring Urban Meyer if that happens and going 15-0

Norvell isn't going to Nebraska, and I don't think Urban Meyer is going to Nebraska (or Florida State if Norvell leaves). Meyer would want a job that's set up for him to win immediately (so Alabama if Saban retires, Clemson if Dabo Swinney gets a offer from the NFL he can't refuse, a return to Ohio State if Ryan Day gets an offer from the NFL he can't refuse, or Michigan if Jim Harbaugh decides to return to the NFL or is fired. Either is plausible).

What about UCLA if Chip Kelly is fired

If Meyer was a National Championship winning basketball coach, and this was UCLA Basketball, it'd make sense. But UCLA Football just isn't a likely landing spot.

Auburn, assuming they do the inevitable and fire Brian Harsin might be plausible, if only because the administration is more than willing to spend money to back him.

First time I've seen Kansas get votes in a while
Should be a lock for the playoff if they can pull off a win this week against an undefeated ACC team.

Keep in mind Kansas still has to travel to both Oklahoma and Baylor and has Oklahoma State at home for three consecutive weeks starting on October 15. Win all three of those games and they are playoff locks (assuming they win the Big Twelve).

Wow, Thursday games. Was it something I said?

Virginia Tech (I just can't get over West Virginia's loss to a Kansas Jayhawks team that might not be for real yet?)

Coastal Carolina

TCU (The Sonny Dykes Bowl kicks off in earnest with a TCU victory)

Clemson (I like Wake Forest, but I'm not betting against Dabo Swinney here)

Baylor

Kansas (If this were college basketball, this would be the GameDay game)

North Carolina (this one had a lot more potential three weeks ago)

Michigan State

San Diego State

Oregon

Arizona

Old Dominion

Arkansas

Utah State

Troy

Northwestern

Ohio State (This probably also will be the Big Ten Title Game)

Oklahoma

USC

Utah (Guess who just fired their coach?)

Stanford (#PAC12 After Dark strikes again)

San Jose State

Two weeks, two coaching changes at Power Five schools.

Arizona State is already not a great job, they are likely facing NCAA sanctions, so it could be difficult to get a truly top-tier coach like a Dave Aranda, Bill O'Brien, Urban Meyer (if he's even interested) or Graham Harrell to come to Tempe.

Here's my best guesses at who will be the next coach at Arizona State.

Former Florida Coach Dan Mullen
Missouri State Head Coach Bobby Petrino
Liberty Head Coach Hugh Freeze
Georgia Co-Defensive Coordination Will Muschamp
UTSA Head Coach Jeff Traylor

Adding picks of Tennessee, Texas, and Hawaii, since I apparently forgot those games writing up my list (I think the Thursday games shocked me a bit, We haven't formally had those in years).

Is Illinois for real?

The Illini are now 3-1 after their 31-0 domination of Chattanooga, and with winnable games against Minnesota, Nebraska and Northwestern still to play, maybe they can make a bowl game this season?

Probably way too early to be talking about this, especially since they still have to play Clemson, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest and Florida State, but Syracuse leads Virginia 16-13 in the third quarter as they look to go 2-0 in the ACC.

Could an ACC Coastal Division title be possible for the Orange? (I know, it would require a million things to go wrong for Clemson, Florida State and NC State. But the dream is there for Dino Babers's program.)

I presume they know how to play Defense in the ACC?

Clemson just scored to lead off double Overtime, making it 51-45 in their game against Wake Forest.

A couple of games to keep an eye on.

First, early in the second quarter, Texas Tech leads #22 Texas 14-10.

Second, late in the First Quarter, Middle Tennessee leads #25 Miami (FL) 14-3.

Minnesota may be for real, as they just won at Michigan State 34-7 and are now 4-0.

I'm gonna wait until they play a real team

I know you probably are a Michigan fan, but most years Michigan State is in the top half of the Big Ten.

Texas Tech takes down #22 Texas 37-34 in overtime, and the fans storm the field in Lubbock.

Elsewhere Kansas won their basketball school showdown against Duke 35-27 to advance to 4-0.

Houston is freefalling right now, trailing Rice against whom they were 17.5 point favorites 14-10 at halftime.

If this doesn't correct itself, don't be shocked if Dana Holgerson is fired.

Middle Tennessee took down #25 Miami (FL) 45-31.

Meanwhile, I think it's rather clear the Big Ten winner will be from the East. Ohio State is crushing Wisconsin 28-7 right now, and it's still early in the second quarter.
