If things go on as they're going now, then the CDU will probably beg Merkel herself to run again.
AKK has simply failed.
Of course, there's a worse possibility. But it wouldn't look good for a certain somebody to step down as President of the European Commission after only 2 years.
And Merz is making his old mistake of underestimating Merkel & the inertia of the CDU again: he's attacking too soon & too harshly; again, his old mistakes.
Or all of this cancels itself out, & yet a worse thing happens. Spahn is strangely popular.
