A taste of what could happen, if Hillary won. Reducing of flights from China likely would be considered xenophobic and US would have gotten (ten?) thousands of additional imported cases. A 1,000 new cases become a 1,000,000 in a month under the assumption that doubling rate time is ~3 days.

Probably the only thing he got right. That was not enough, as the data shows. The closing of travel to Europe was bungled since people rushed back to the states and airports in cities like New York and Chicago were absolutely crushed by people returning from Europe. Perfect place for the virus to spread into multiple other communities across the US. Looking at the places that are most affected, I would say more cases came from Europe rather than China.

And I won't even go into the testing failure.......that is the main reason why the US is in the predicament it is in.

Except Trump didn't really close travel to China:

There are now new cases in China, so that should caution anyone that wants to run right back to normal just because there is like a week or two of little to no new cases

New Daily Cases (yesterday)

30 - China
81 - South Korea
120 - Singapore
500 - Japan

China and South Korea numbers are negligible at this late stage.

With strict tracing and isolation protocols, i would rather be in this part of the world during a pandemic.

Japan and Singapore are approaching their highest level after a very slow start.

https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-06/coronavirus-update-queen-message-us-warning-boris-johnson/12123880

Let's see what they do in the next 2 weeks, because the virus is brewing.

The point is that people thought it was over in China and things could begin to resume back to normal, but that's not the case.

There are still states that won't even do a stay at home order. There's no way things are just "going back to normal" by May 1 and anyone who thinks that is naive.

Just because NY isn't exploding like it was before doesn't mean it's over. The #s are exploding in numerous other states right now.

Places like New Jersey, PA, Illinois, Florida, etc continue to register their largest daily numbers of cases. Why would anyone think that the number of cases countrywide would suddenly start taking a rapid dip?

From the article.

Quote
In reality, the CDC reports on its website that four people between the ages of 15 and 24 and one person between the ages of one and four have died. CNN has also reported on the death of a newborn in Connecticut on April 1 and an infant in Illinois last month whose death is being investigated as possibly caused by the virus.

What a liar!

He said 0, but in fact it was 5! It completely changes his point that your policies should be based on this fact!

well... yes. he lied. there HAS been people that have died, even if it's only 5. he shouldn't say there haven't been "any", because that is... factually... a straight up lie

Strictly speaking, shouldn’t conservatives be the ones cautious about opening up the country and the liberals be the ones wanting to open the country more willingly?

Yes.

I don't personally know any liberals and leftists who want the lockdowns to continue.

I don't think anyone "wants" the lockdowns to continue. We'd all love for the country to open back up. But that's not realistic, or the logical thing to do right now

How stupid are Michigan Republicans?

LOLZ getting sick to own the libz!

Went on Snapchat map to view public stories in the area, it appears a bunch of people, including teenagers with "young people against Whitmer" signs have started physically protesting outside the capital.

What did she do even? How could anyone protest her?

People are being absolutely ridiculous - but unfortunately, there's people out there like that who want more people to get the disease and die apparently then stay at home for a little bit longer to save the country.

Protesters in Michigan have Trump flags and Confederate flags. Suffice to say, this protest is really NOT about Whitmer, is it.

Midwest Governors Announce Partnership to Reopen Regional Economy

- Illinois
- Indiana
- Kentucky
- Michigan
- Minnesota
- Ohio
- Wisconsin

They clearly are not on the same page, since Evers just extended the shutdown to May 26th, while DeWine is trying to open up on May 1. DeWine was doing so well, and now he's just doing Trump's dirty work once again. It's simply idiotic to open up such a big state again in 2 weeks, especially when Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and nearby states, are still not doing well.

The powerpoint is useless if we don't ramp up testing. And Trump clearly doesn't care about testing. So, that leaves us... nowhere

Do Fauci and Birx actually expect people to go back to restaurants, bars, clubs, theaters and sporting events anytime soon? Wow they both drank the Trump Kool-Aid

My favorite part is that in Phase *ONE* of this "guidance", it has Gyms and Movie Theaters expected to reopen with "social distancing measures", as if those would actually work at places like those. Yet, Bars remain closed. The entire thing doesn't make any sense.

It's clear Birx and Fauci act as if things are rosier than they really are to make Trump happy.

Meanwhile, if one state is "open" and another is not, what is stopping me, say I'm infected, from going to a state/area that's "reopen" and infecting people? Say I'm asymptomatic.

Testing Falls Woefully Short as Trump Seeks an End to Stay-at-Home Orders

Flawed tests, scarce supplies and limited access to screening have hurt the U.S.’s ability to monitor Covid-19, governors and health officials warn.

Wow, just shy of our all time cases high. At best we're plateauing at a high level.

Which makes it even more ridiculous that we're already talking about reopening the economy right now when these #s are probably UNDERSELLING the true #s[/list]

The people at these 'protests' are going to be responsible for more cases and more deaths. You don't seem to see the protests happening anywhere else except for the U.S., because half the country is ignorant apparently

I strongly dislike Ron DeSantis, but I don’t see what the big deal is about opening beaches, as long as social distancing guidelines are enforced.  How are they really any different than parks?  There is very little evidence of significant spread of the virus through the air outdoors.

Um, social distancing is not being enforced on the beaches. This was barely after it opened today:

If Trump is unwilling to do it, why aren’t governor’s seizing control of factories in their states and forcing them to produce covid tests?

They don't have the guts. They'd rather whine and complain.

Who is whining and complaining? They're just saying that the federal government should be doing its job and leading this - and they're not. And they're right about that.
