Lmao, Lindsey Graham says he intends to vote for Blinken, calls him an excellent choice.

Why would that be surprising?

AG will be a particularly contentious one imo

Merrick Garland?   I know Cornyn at least has come out in favor already.

Most contentious I expect to be Tanden and Beccara.

Lee, Hawley, Cruz, Graham, and Kennedy will try to turn the hearing into a three-ring circus though.  Mayorkas will probably be a close-ish vote; you’ll see demands to investigate the 2020 results, Hunter Biden, and all that nonsense.  I agree about Tenden and Beccara being contentious.

I expect Graham will vote for Garland.

I dunno Rahm's personality doesn't seem like a great fit for Japan, culturally?

Can someone tell me why Republicans in the Senate are so unfavorable towards Haaland?

have not seen any evidence that they are, just assumption from some that they would be for energy policy reasons. I think she will get through with 70+ votes.

Tom, typically the dogwhistles are intended to go over the heads of the liberals.

The implication behind Cotton's question is that supporting "racial equity" as opposed to "racial equality" means discrimination but woke.   Just in case that wasn't clear from the snippet or people aren't familiar with the debate on this.

Sasse went after Beccera hard in his questioning the other day.

I am wondering if these issues will be a problem for Manchin's support.

Becerra reported to the floor on a vote of 14-14. Due to the tie vote, there will need to be an additional floor vote to formally discharge the nomination before it can be considered.

Tai, Adeyemo reported to the floor by voice vote.

https://www.finance.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/Results%20of%20Executive%20Session%20on%20March%203,%202021.pdf

(Becerra's HELP hearing was just a courtesy thing, that committee doesn't need to take any action)

Why is the Finance Committee rather than HELP in charge of HHS nominations?

Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-CO)
Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI)

Biden should nominate a disabled vet for something and see if she still votes against.

Biden is the first president since Bush 41 to not have an Asian Cabinet Secretary. Also, neither Tai nor Harris are "Cabinet Secretaries". "Cabinet Secretary" = head of a federal government agency/department.

Unilaterally opposing all Biden nominees is probably the wrong move but I don't disagree with Duckworth's message. Also, saying "What about Kamala? She's the VP!" is tokenism. That's like how some white people told us (Black people) that "racism is over" because "Obama is/was president".

how is demanding a nominee of a particular race not itself tokenism??
