https://abc7news.com/politics/us-house-of-representatives-passes-armenian-genocide-resolution/5657113/

Quote
Each year, on April 24, Armenian Americans flood the streets of Los Angeles to commemorate Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, a holiday that commemorates the period between 1915 and 1923 when the Ottoman Empire systematically killed 1.5 million Armenians. Forty-nine states—including California—recognize the event as a genocide, but the United States had long failed to officially do so. Until today.

A legally non-binding resolution affirming that the U.S. should recognize the genocide was overwhelmingly approved in the House today, where the measure was shepherded by L.A. congressman Adam Schiff, who said in a tweet, “We will not be party to genocide denial. We will not be silent. We will never forget.”

Excellent news.  Let's pass it through the Senate, force Trump to sign it into law, and announce it on the floor of the U.N.

I think one of the worst things Obama did was when he reneged on his promise to recognize the Armenian genocide.

The Turks killed 1.5 million people in cold blood, but what finally motivated the US Congress to recognize it as a genocide was a collective desire to stick it to Donald Trump. Shameful.

Or maybe it was them seeing history about to repeat itself in Syrian Kurdistan.

Obviously the right move, but it's pretty hollow when we don't officially recognize our own genocides.

So, Ilhan Omar voted present. Let's see how her fans defend this.
That only genocides perpetrated by Christians count?

Which would those be?

I believe he's referring to the genocide of Native Americans?

There’s also the Holocaust, which was primarily perpetrated by Christians.

Who cares about what Trump has to do with this? It's a good thing that Congress is finally recognizing the Armenian Genocide, regardless of the reasoning. They should have done this a long time ago.

Not primarily by Americans, though, so it depends what group Harry means by "our".

Various genocides of Native American groups, including but not limited to the Trail of Tears. Also one can make a very strong case that the American slavery system was a genocide of Africans.

She's engaged in full-blown genocide denial with her statement.

I'm a fan, but... wow. This is indefensible. I really can't think of a reason why we should do this.

By the way, this post of yours is very amusing. I may consider myself a "fan" of Omar, but that doesn't mean I'm going to go to great lengths to try to defend every single thing she says or does. It seems that you're such a hack that you can't fathom how someone can possibly look at things in that way.

Yeah this was a nonsensical move by Representative Omar. The rationale moreso.

Eddie Bernice Johnson is an Armenian Genocide denier.
