Did Garcia benefit from the debate?

Would be nice if we got some new polling on this race...

Didn’t seem to matter.

(For what it’s worth, my friend group of around 15 gay men in Manhattan who all watched the debate together had 100% first-round support for Garcia. This group was splintered among Stringer, Yang, McGuire, Wiley, Morales and a lot of undecided a month ago.)

I’m so incredibly jealous I want a group of 15 gay men in Manhattan, instead I have two on a good day in Columbia

Honestly at this point I’m surprised Wiley-Garcia didn’t do a mutual campaign like Leno-Kim did in San Francisco

Warren endorses Wiley.

Could maybe peel away some Garcia voters if publicized? I feel like there’s decent overlap between Warren 2020 supporters and Garcia 2021 supporters, at least among people I know. Anecdotal though.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The Wiley and Garcia’s bases Venn diagram are about a circle.

Is there even a front runner/favorite at this point? Adams and Yang seem ahead, but they could easily fall behind

Eric Adams is far worse than I ever thought.

This is honestly one the most absurd things since “build the wall”

Today is the first day of early voting, and I voted this morning as I'll be away from home starting Monday and would have trouble voting later than today or tomorrow. Turnout was non-zero (more than just my husband and I were there) but very light. Hoping Garcia manages to pull it out.

Took a long time to put together my preferences for races other than mayor last night (there are a lot - Comptroller, City Council and others), and I suspect most people will not fill out lower preferences for those races or choose some nonsense pattern for them.

The sheer magnitude of this election is honestly astounding, NYC is about to get a whole new government

The left made a critical error in bashing Yang and not Adams.

Yang is a foolish incompetent, but Adams is dangerous.
Can you explain this to me? "The left" is certainly bashing Adams right now, with Our City and all that. There were big meetings to coordinate anti-Yang and anti-Adams messaging like 2 months ago. You're not going to be able to escape it, soon enough!
As a city employee, i personally think Yang will be a worse boss for me than Adams lol.

I think they’re refering to Adams being “out there” with that “give Teachers a village to teach” comment

If I were in New York my ballot would be

Prince (mostly as a protest)
Donovan (he’s slightly better than McGuire)
Wiley
Garcia

Honestly at this point the phrase “stealing the election” means I’m loosing and I don’t want to admit it. Anyone who uses it serious should be banished to the internet

I honestly thing the cross endorsement with Yang, especially after the debate, is going to cost Garcia the election

I really don’t see why people care and making a fuss over the election taking a while to certify. That’s pretty normal (for New York especially) for elections to take awhile, especially when close and competitive. I get it doesn’t make good headlines to say “Adams has almost certainly won but we don’t know”, but honestly I’m perfectly fine waiting a week or more if it means a more fair, representative and thorough election

It's a horrible practice. Maybe it's "normal" in New York but it shouldn't be. As others have said, it gives people like Trump room to spread conspiracy theories about something being wrong with the process. And the people of NY-22 were deprived of representation for six weeks because ballot counting was such a mess. You're a f**king idiot if you're actually defending New York's election system.

Strict deadlines for receipt and certification.

I agree their should be deadlines, no one says they’re aren’t, but are you seriously arguing taking more time to check your work makes it more likely for it to be wrong? I wasn’t defending New York, their electoral system is a mess, but I don’t get the pages of bellyaching about it taking a few days to count the votes

Give a day, give a month Trump and people like hun will poke holes and scream and rant, it’s not the election officers fault

Maybe this will wake people up on why RCV is a garbage voting system. It only entrenches the elite of any area it is in.

How does RCV working exactly as intended prove it’s garbage?
