The most intense detractors of Eric Adams imply that he is both a closet Republican reactionary while also being a vicious anti-Semitic Black separatist.

While I broadly agree with the rest of your post, black separatism and NoI rhetoric are inherently right wing. Black separatists, Israelites etc are anti interracial marriage, homophobic and extremely xenophobic. Farrakhan is only associated with the left because of clueless media personalities who think Black radical automatically = leftist.

It's right-wing but not in the way that a Republican is right-wing, which was my main point.

Our Revolution has been posting positive stuff on Maya Wiley for a while now, yet for some reason they won’t just endorse her already.
They endorsed her last week

Maya Wiley annoys me for many reasons but the one that stood out to me most in last night's debate was the statement that subway assaults and rapes are up because people are "mentally ill" and in need of help from "crisis response teams" that will meet their "human needs."

The mental contortions that some of these people will go through to ignore any need for more policing are unbelievable.

Increasing policing has an absolute net zero effect on resolving rape charges. In fact, of the rapes that get reported to the cops, only about 8% are ever resolved. 13% of rape victims say that they don't go to the cops because they don't trust them. And in any given year between 300 and 500 sexual assaults are committed by police officers. So, no "more policing" is not what rape victims need.

What do they need? Greater economic opportunity for women and LGBTQ people, legislation to prevent landlord harassment of renters (yes, landlord rape is common), more funding for social services beyond the police (which Maya is actually right about), and even an end to fraternities and sororities loooong before they need more money for the inept and incompetent cops. Not to mention an end to rape culture, the "grab them by the p****" mentality, chauvinism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny and the whole 9 yards. Transgender women are statistically the most likely demographic group to get raped, and yet all the GOP has ever done for them is force them to use the bathrooms and prisons that they are mosts likely to get raped in. So, please, conservatives, don't bring up rape because you're not on the right side of this issue.

And frankly, as a rape survivor, I really don't appreciate using what is one of the worst thingss a person can go through as a f-ing canard for militarism and fascism.

Yea it’s not like AOC is slowly gaining popularity and leverage (which takes years btw) while also expanding her base with people like Torres, Jones, Newman, Bush, Bowman just two years later…

It’s only been one cycle since the demsoc movement even really started, so it’s really too early to call it dead or alive.

Largely agree with you that this is a long process but Torres should not be on this list, he’s in a very different faction of NY politics than Bowman, Jones and AOC.

lmao if you think Morales (who has never identified as a socialist) or Collins (who ended up calling himself some sort of anarchist) are in any way... relevant, to anything

Who is the biggest supporter of the police in this field?

Curtis Sliwa. He's a big fan of vigilante justice, even if the recipients are innocent blacks. You'll love him.

Did Garcia benefit from the debate?

Would be nice if we got some new polling on this race...

Didn’t seem to matter.

(For what it’s worth, my friend group of around 15 gay men in Manhattan who all watched the debate together had 100% first-round support for Garcia. This group was splintered among Stringer, Yang, McGuire, Wiley, Morales and a lot of undecided a month ago.)

Yeah, it appears that she has definitely consolidated a lot of voters in the past few weeks

I’m so incredibly jealous I want a group of 15 gay men in Manhattan, instead I have two on a good day in Columbia

You'll have a lot more fun with 15 gay men in midtown Atlanta than you would with 15 gay men in Manhattan Tongue

Stringer’s statement on this is… not great:

Quote
"If, in fact, I met Ms. Logan, and ever did anything to make her uncomfortable, I am sorry," he said. "Uptown Local was a long-ago chapter in my life from the early 1990s and it was all a bit of a mess."

Left wing consolidation continues (at least among official orgs and electeds, if not voters). Wouldn’t be shocked by an AOC endorsement but probably still unlikely.

Never mind, it’s happening! Think I’ve decided on her as my #1. Not that I think she’d be a great mayor or anything but the other options range from bad to worse.
