Bigotry towards whites

Take it upon yourself to determine what "widespread" consists of.

Widespread? Probably not. However, I don't like when the handwringers act like it doesn't exist or when people say our outrage is fake. Apparently, we have to pick and choose which bigotry is worthy of disgust.

Aye!  I'm not saying it doesn't happen, of course it does.  Everybody gets "bigoted" towards at some time or another I'd imagine.  And yep, white dudes are not supposed to pitch a fit when it happens to be to them.  Boo, I say to that.  Judge the man on his merit, not the color of his skin or the actions of his ancestors.

Yes, just like the reverse. It's just so happens that the power structure is still predominantly white so it doesn't effect them that much. But if you look at minority majority areas it can get ugly (I'm with Flyers on that). In general 'race' relations are still nowhere near as good as we like to think.

I wouldn't say widespread, however, what upsets me is that if legitimately criticize a minority for "reverse racism", you are typically attacked (by the way, I do not believe Sotomayer is a racist).

I have another, sort of on topic question. Why are blacks and black culture idealized by a good portion (though I don't think majority) of white kids? As a younger white myself, I don't understand this. Why would you want to be poor and live in the ghetto? (I'm not suggesting all blacks live in the ghetto, poor blacks are a minority apparently)

It's the commercialized stereotypical black culture that white kids respond to. The materialism, the 'gangsta' lifestyle, the hedonism. It provides an identity, and an escape. This appropriation has been going on since the 1920s.

Either side crying about the situation is getting old. It's as if no one can take this on without resorting to emotional appeals. I don't mean here on Atlas. Whites arguing against affirmative action, and other white guys getting hot and bothered pointing out the plight of the black man.

     There's definitely bigotry against whites. It's just not as common as bigotry against minorities. I'm not sure how widespread it is, though.

I vote no in spirit. There is definitley lots of bigotry against whites, but is it widespread? I would lean towards saying no. At the same time I can empathize with many dirt poor minorities who have a tendency to hate whites, while I cannot with those who hate minorities.

It is because it is easy to sympathize with those who hate whites, even though the hatred is extended to them. In other words it isn't serious bigotry or something that I would get riled up and angry about. It is perfectly understandable, especially considering I am half-Mexican. It annoys me when upper middle class/rich whites complain about "reverse racism" because of Affirmative Action, when they already have a leg up on 95% of the country based on their wealth. In other words I tend to dislike the types of people talk about "reverse racism", as if it is an issue hurting their families. I might understand if your family has had a family member killed because of it but if you live in suburbia, it is ridiculous to make an issue out of it unless you want to try and solve it.

I don't think anyone would call me a racist but I must say that it is hilarious to take race lectures from rich kids in the suburban Pacific Northwest, for example, who will probably see as many blacks in their lifetime as I'll see in a day.
