I know that Lautenberg died in 2013 and that Chris Christie appointed a Republican to the Senate seat, but that’s better than a Republican serving the entire Senate term.

Bronz, if you want to ask about redoing an NJ senate race which is going to get predictable results from this forum, 2006 is marginally more interesting than 2008.
1976, 1982, 1996 and 2000 are also more interesting.

Definitely Frank Lautenberg. The last time I would have voted for a Republican for Senate in New Jersey probably would have been 1982 or possibly 2000.
Why would you vote for the Republican in 1982 or 2000?

I cannot think of someone who would have been a better Senator than Millicent Fenwick.
I would vote for Fenwick with hindsight considering what bill Lautenberg is the author of, but I doubt MATTROSE94 knows or cares about that bill.
