The new map might be a three seat pick up for the democrats. The districts containing Eerie, Allentown, and Susquehanna county. I don't think Penn State will be enough to flip the one on the middle.

The State SC is 5-2 democrat. I think we al know how this is going to work out.

The new map could potentially be a four seat pick up for the Democrats in November.

The current map has 5 very vulnerable districts: 06, 07, 08, 15, 16.

Also, I still think that the Washington Post "nonpartisan" map is a slight Republican gerrymander; there is no reason for there to be only 1 Democratic District in the Pittsburgh area on a nonpartisan map.

The Pittsburgh area outside of Allegheny County itself (which makes up little more than one district on its own) is very Republican these days.

Not really. Boroughs like Braddock, Penn Hills, Monroeville, Duquesne, etc. are still Democratic. The townships along the Allegheny River could take the Northern Pittsburgh district. That will probably be the Dem strategy.

The court is 5-2 democrat. I would be shell shocked if they didn't strike it down.

I have complete faith in the State SC. We will have fair congressional elections by November. No need to worry, Atlas Cheesy

How many GOP seats are at risk under a fair map?

Nate Cohn said that the Dems could pick up 1-6 seats. This is really bad for the Republicans.

Wait how can SCOTUS hear a case that was decided based on the Pennsylvania Constitution, right?

Wouldn't they need to declare the Pennsylvania Constitution unconstitutional to overturn it?

They can but SCOTUS will probably reject the appeal since the ruling is based on the PA constitution.

Unfortunately, Republicans are probably just going to throw Pat Meehan under the bus and call it a day, only netting Democrats 1 seat.

SC has to approve of the map.

What are the chances the Supreme Court intervenes in this?

Zilch. As I have stated, the ruling was based on the PA constitution.

I really hope that the SCOTUS doesn’t issue a stay order (my gut tells me they will), because Democrats may need to do better in Pennsylvania to compensate for them possibly missing the ballot in some of the California House Races (CA-48, CA-39, and CA-45 if Raths runs).

If they didn't do it with Florida, they won't here for the same exact situation.
I agree that their is no legal precedent for them to get involved, but that may not be enough to stop a Republican-controlled SCOTUS from intervening to save a few Republican districts.

Lear, it is not going to happen.

Still waiting for Limo to claim that this is catastrophic for the Democrats.

When do you think SCOTUS will announce whether their going to issue a stay order or not?

I don't know, but I'm scared about that too.

It's not happening. The ruling is based on the PA constitution.

In the end, I don't think the decision will be overruled, but the fact that the GOP SCOTUS is even thinking about helping congressional republican here makes my blood boil.

There is apparently now an effort by Pennsylvania Republicans in the state legislature to impeach the 5 justices that ruled against the gerrymandered maps. Requires a majority in the state house and 2/3 in the state senate, which Republicans have if they all voted together.

This is the modern day Republican party. Such a blatant disregard for the rule of law and the constitution.

I feel like the PA GOP will be forced to make the map as fair as possible because if the Democratic SC and Governor don't like it they could draw up a map that's worse for the GOP.

That map still sucks. Sorry, but I don't see Wolf signing off on this one.
