Virginia Tech completes the upset, downs #10 North Carolina 17-10.

We've also got the makings of what could be an upset in Charlotte, as the Charlotte 49ers of Conference USA lead Duke 17-14 late in the 3rd Quarter.

Can any Duke loss in football really be considered an upset? Wink

Duke entered the game as 6.5 point favorites, and in any event, I would consider an ACC school losing to a Conference USA school as an upset.

Why in the world was North Carolina a top 10 team in the first place?

I don't think they would be one of the top 10 teams in the SEC if that was their conference...

UNC was a bit overhyped but they're far better than SEC bottom-feeders, lol.

Agreed. UNC's definitely better than Vanderbilt, and I can make a decent argument for them being better than Missouri/Kentucky/South Carolina/Tennessee/Ole Miss/Mississippi State as well.

Upset Alert!

Twelve and half minutes to go, and Virginia Tech leads #10 North Carolina 17-7.
It wouldn't be college football season without UNC being overrated in preseason rankings and immediately upset by inferior competition in the first game of the season.

Especially losing to a CUSA team that didn't exist ten years ago. (UNCC had their first season in 2013!)

To be fair to Kansas, they had lost thirteen in a row before that game, and this might be their only win this season.

Maybe the BIG XII (soon to be with only 8 teams) should invite South Dakota.

I doubt it. Remember last year when everybody laughed at Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Kentucky for playing in bowl games despite losing records and being among the worst teams in the SEC, but then they all 3 beat ranked teams from other conferences in the bowls? (To the surprise of no one in the SEC, but to the shock of the rest of the country...)

North Carolina is obviously much better than Vanderbilt, but you can make a case for anyone else in the SEC beating them. The lower half teams in the SEC tend to recruit as well as UNC or better, and put a similar number of players in the NFL draft. And I didn't say UNC would be last in the SEC, just 11th or worse if they were the SEC's 15th team.

Not just any FCS team, but one that hasn't had a winning season since 2017.

Great game in progress between #19 Penn State and #12 Wisconsin in Madison. We're all tied at 10 midway through the fourth quarter.

Don't look now, but Tulane trails Oklahoma 40-35 and has the ball with 2 minutes left.

Looks like Oklahoma will hold on.  Meanwhile, UConn football continues to circle the drain, losing to Holy Cross 38-28.

UConn has assembled a remarkably soft schedule, with games against three of the absolute worst teams in FBS (Vandy, Middle Tennessee, UMass), two FCS opponents (Holy Cross and Yale), and a handful of teams in the bottom half of FBS (Fresno, Purdue, Army, Wyoming). I'm not sure what Houston will be this season, but it's very possible they only play two teams above .500. Going winless against that slate would be a remarkable feat.

They also play Clemson.

#19 Penn State defeats #12 Wisconsin 16-10.

We also might have an upset brewing, as Fresno State and Oregon are tied at 21 in the third quarter.

Oregon entered the game as 21 point favorites.

Wisconsin had every chance to win that game.  They just couldn't hang onto the ball at critical times.

I told you Penn State is legit. They could (like, 30% chance) beat Ohio State.

Were you expecting anything else from a non-Clemson ACC team facing Alabama?

I expected them to lose, but Miami looks completely helpless.

Nick Saban tends to make teams that aren't Clemson completely hapless...especially ACC teams.
