"Drumpf" is an inherently funny-sounding word. The Brandon thing is an esoteric in-joke that you need to be an obsessive news watcher to even understand. A better comparison might be the covfefe thing, though even that wasn't as obscure.
Really? We're calling other people's names "inherently funny" now? Imagine saying the same thing about a guy with an African or Chinese name? Oh wait, your side does it all the time and gets away with it because lefties can't be racist. Remember when Joe Biden said you can't go to a 7-Eleven without having a slight Indian accent? Oh, so funny, Joe!

Also, the Drumpf thing was not a little filler joke. It was the feature of that episode with props and production. And there were posters here who beat that horse to death and beyond.

It is a fact that some names sound incredibly funny in a foreign language (hell, some names are really funny in their own language too - ask any French speaker about former Québec PM Couillard). Denying it is exactly the kind of performative wokeness that makes the left seem delusional. Of course you have to be careful not to weaponize in a way that reinforces real bigotry, but good f**king grief, I think German-Americans will be fine here.
I'm half German-American and have never been personally offended by it.

It's just REALLY lame. It's a total no effort insult. It's like "Crooked Hillary" or "Sleepy Joe".

I mean, fair. It was funny for maybe a week and then became white noise like the rest of the talking points in that godforsaken campaign. My point is just that calling it "racist" in inane and proof that the right is just capable of empty context-less performative outrage as the left when it's convenient for it.

Both have funny back stories (the Brandon one is better because it was "naturally" formed), both got ran into the ground.  If you fly the flag for Trump or Biden and think there is a "win" for you here (or a "loss" for the other side"), you're wrong.

It's also worth mentioning that Donald Trump's family was never called "Drumpf."

Quote from: Wikipedia
Trump is a German surname derived from a word that was used to refer both to drums and to trumpets.[3] The name is on record in Kallstadt from the 17th century.[4] The family descended from an itinerant lawyer, Hanns Drumpf, who settled in Kallstadt in 1608 and whose descendants changed their name from Drumpf to Trump during the Thirty Years' War of the early 1600s.[5][6][7] However, this is not in accordance with data provided by German genealogists.[4] Journalist Kate Connolly, visiting Kallstadt, found several variations in spelling of the surname in the village archives (including Drumb, Tromb, Tromp, Trum, Trumpff, Dromb) but her article does not note "Drumpf".[8] There are no indications that other spellings of the name, including Trumpf, could be related to the Trumps.[9]
