In the Convention we are discussing the possibility of a Lower House in Atlasia, in which all citizens would automatically be given a seat and be allowed to debate legislation and vote. If such an institution existed as part of the overall government in Atlasia, to what degree would you participate?

No.

Also a poll for this sort of thing is deceiving, of course everyone if going to say they're going to participate.

So you're saying that you wouldn't participate in such a system because you happen to favor a different proposal?

No.

Probably the biggest problem with such a poll is that the people most enthusiastic to participate will all get elected to the upper house.

I wouldn't participate in such a system because I have no interest in being forced into a government sim.

No disrespect....but, ummm, what would you have done if you had been elected to the Senate?

I've explained this before.

I suppose....but it's not like you can't run for the upper house in such a system.

I've read your criticisms, don't worry, and some of them are legitimate.

Just saying that even though this is currently an election sim....the winners are practically put into a government sim.

Actually, I just thought of a possibility for a bicameral congress where the lower house is not universal.

You've all, in a way, missed exactly what this poll accomplishes. Of course, if I say what it does then it will defeat the purpose of having it. I am going to close the poll by Wednesday at the lastest and then I'll let you know exactly what its purpose is.

Marokai, suffice to say it goes along with some of your thinking.

Wow, 8 whole people (7 saying yes) responded to a poll asking if they would participate in a Universal system!

My point is seven people bothered to participate in the poll at all. To make your proposal work you need roughly 31-35 active members to fill all offices in the legislature, if more than 8 people can't pay attention enough to respond to a poll discussing Atlasia future, I have some concerns. (By the way, if you didn't catch it, that was the point of this poll. The number of respondents.)

We can only speculate on the number of people who voted by the number of comments made. By the way, you may not realise it, but you have unwittingly (see, I can use the word, too) revealed that no system would work. If only eight people are going to be involved, I don't think it particularly matters what system we use. If we can only get eight people out to vote in a poll like this, then how many elected positions would you like? Four perhaps? You'd just about end up with an equal number of nominations and voters.

Realistically, a properly-working bicameral legislature would have 15 members total, not just 15 in the upper house. That's just me though.

Also, on further thought I would not participate in a universal system, due to the ridiculous inactivity of a universal lower house. I came up with an alternate idea for a bicameral congress which I guess I'll keep around for the fifth convention.

Smid we appreciate that you put thought into this plan. But the problem is we need people to start the system. But we don't have those people. But thank you for trying to change Atlasia. And we would love if you could keep trying.

We can always change the proposals by voting and motions. Feel free to propose it in whichever of the current models you think it could fit best. There has been no discussion in one of the threads (I forget which one off the top of my head), so perhaps an idea to change it up a bit would get it moving.

Worth a try.
