The numbers really aren't changing that much. Most kids are less likely to be totally "pro-choice", but less of them are likely to be "pro-life". There really isn't any evidence to support the fact that more Americans, especially kids, are becoming more anti-abortion. My guess is that it just seems that way because the numbers on abortion aren't really changing and yet this is a more Democratic generation. The way I see is that the anti-abortion issue is hanging on to more progressive demographics is because of two or three things-

- Fetal Rights can be spun into a liberal civil rights issue
- Youth Groups are pretty active
- There just isn't the same environment of anti-abortion abuse that there was in the 50s and 60s.
- Young Catholic Mexicans coming to America.
- Abortion Rates are dropping- though, they are dropping everywhere in the world even FASTER than in the U.S. (and the facts that abortion laws or opinions don't effect abortion rates)

I haven't really been posting that much lately. Getting ready for my summer job. Just got out of exams. I probably won't post that much in the near future, I don't think.

I don't think that Willy or DWTL's prediction that Roe will be overturn, abortion will be largely banned and no one in their right minds will question those bans by 2020-2030ish is realistic. Unless, of course, there is technology that allows for abortion without the actual interruption of fetal development. Then again, who knows what will happen.

If there is a genetic basis, evolution will select for pro-life genes.

Then again, the idea that more conservative people are more fertile hasn't really translated into conservatives having a permanent majority.

Also, for those interested, the trendlines look like this-

"Do you think abortion should be legal in all cases, legal in most cases, illegal in most cases, or illegal in all cases?"

  Legal in
All Cases Legal in
Most Cases Illegal in
Most Cases Illegal in
All Cases Unsure

Ehh.... I guess in 12 years, we have gone from 58-39 to 57-40. Maybe we will be a "pro-life" nation in like 60 years at this rate. Then again,  we were at 55-41 just before Bush was elected. So much for the "culture of life"

Also, I don't think people are taking the view that we can comprimise by giving rights to BOTH fetuses AND homosexuals. A new poll released by gallup today shows similiar numbers to last year. Over the long run, there has been more support for homosexuals but I am guessing that though people are more sympathetic to homosexuals, they also know that ignoring homosexual relationships as just casual flings no matter what is still settled law. Think about pot. Pot is becoming ever so much more socially acceptable, yet people are still dismissing liberalized pot laws by like 10 points because they feel that the prosecution of marijuana users is settled law. Same thing with prostitution. What's wierd about abortion is the fact that though abortion and birth control was becoming slightly more acceptable in the 60s, there still really wasn't that much legistlation to legalize it and that was because it was "settled law". Then Roe came along and the "settled law" changed. That's how come despite having socially conservative governance ever since then, we still haven't banned abortion. Once we actually overturn Roe, there will be no "settled law" and maybe that will create an environment of law expirementation when people will have an open mind and most states will finally find a comprimise save the Mormons, the Deep South, and New York, Boston and LA.

I think America will eventually become a pro-life nation with very restricted Abortions. The best way is through birth control and if the retarded fundies would let us spread it more we could perhaps have less abortions and unwanted pregnancies.

What does that mean? That abortion is still attainable in the future, but you have to convince a hearing officer that you need it? Isn't that how it is in the United Kingdom?
