That was one of the most dreadful set of penalties I've ever seen.

Well, pace yourself because tomorrow there could be more. Wink

No more questionable teams left in the tournament - now only big matches with big teams.

Also, Fox just called the quarterfinal the "Elite Eight"... 🤦‍♀️ I hate living in this country.

Loved this match!! Portugal is much better without Ronaldo playing. Also, karma is a b***h as the player who substituted him, Gonçalo Ramos, scored 3 times, a hat-trick.
On one hand, I don't want Portugal to win because it'll make Ronaldo a god, but on the other hand I want them to win so he'll retire on the spot and go away... When Leāo scored the last goal, you could see all the Portugal players looking happy and running to congratulate him, while Ronaldo just walked with little expression on his face.

Samuel Eto'o, now President of the Cameroon FA, attacked a YouTuber in Qatar.

Continent of the countries of the top 8 in the World Cup.
Only one correction: green is South America and not Latin America

Sometimes, the top 8 doesn't tell us about the final. In 1958 and 1994, Brazil was the unique non-European in the top 8 and became the champion. In 2010, there were only 3 Europeans, the lowest number, but these were the 3 that reached the podium: Spain, Netherlands, Germany
At a glance, there are errors - USA was not in the top 8 teams in 1950 by any metric.

Croatia could win it all now and bring hope to small countries everywhere.

As a result, our football is un-Dutch and completely unwatchable. Lazy, defensive, result-oriented football, only successful because of glimpses of the class De Jong and Gakpo have.
And today, they rely on loading the box with big men like you see in the Championship, and then pull an American cheese set piece at the death to go to extra time.

I mean, I have always been an advocate of bringing on big men late when chasing a result, but I've never seen a team so incapable of coping as Argentina have been. Paredes is kind of lucky to still be on the pitch.

Argentina vs Portugal final? Is this what Allah has written?

The scripted element will somewhat be taken out of it by the fact that Ronaldo would presumably (rightly) start on the bench, though.

He can still celebrate in full kit like John Terry.

Well that's the least painful England exit I've seen in quite a long time. In standard time (unlike against Croatia in 2018 and Italy in 2021) and happened due to pure choking (i.e. a penalty over the bar) rather than a prickish referee or opposing team. Not sure everyone will agree but there we go.
Why didn't England get 3 points for that field goal? Was there a flag on the play?

Will Southgate have the decency to resign? Or does he stay on, knowing he's unemployable at a decent level and his mates in the FA and media will not criticize him?

This has the same energy as Americans unironically calling Black British people "African-Americans", and "America is the greatest and oldest nation on earth".

In fairness, I've only ever heard the slightly less dubious claim that America is the oldest democracy on Earth, which is still only true based on a narrow (and biased) definition and ignoring the fact that blacks were considered property and women couldn't vote.

Decisions of Belgium are made in Brussels
Decisions of Argentina are made in Buenos Aires
Decisions of Venezuela are made in Caracas

Not the best examples, lol.

The baffling (okay, not so baffling) thing is, the English media seem to still believe the England manager needs to be English, when an English manager hasn't won the English league in 30 years, and the only living English managers to achieve anything on the continent in that time are Steve McClaren and maybe Roy Hodgson, both of whom already had their chance. (Graham Potter arguably did some good things in Sweden, but it was a small club, and there was corruption involved)

And then the first foreign manager on their lips is Pochettino, who has no achievements other than lucking into a final with Bottleham.

Look, if you're going to pretend to be a Great Expert on all things football, please at least make sure that you get the basics right: Bobby Robson was famously very successful at club level in Portugal and the Netherlands in the 1990s.

I didn't know he was still alive.

Uruguay 2010 were the opposite of a popular squad, lol. They were the most hated team in the tournament by far.

Thank god we had Dibu on this match, he was freaking amazing at saving during the final PK's and predicted almost every single kick
Don't forget the save from basically point-blank at the end of extra time.
