A bizarre data point out of South Africa

Whites in the country have a higher death rate than blacks, despite the wealth and income and healthcare access gap being extreme.

Wonder what explains this?

Are whites in SA an older cohort?

i suspect much older

So what, then, should “this forum” do about the unvaccinated people now clogging the hospitals? For most of us, Omicron *is* the common cold, if even that. It’s not reasonable to ask us to grind our lives to a halt at this point if the crisis isn’t going to be managed from the top.

bull sh**t, also the omicron is more lethal of the flu

Not for the vaccinated.

you can compare unvaccinated for the cold with unvaccined for covid-19 not unvaccinated for the cold with vaccinated for the covid-19.
in other i never known of people die for the cold, but i know vaccinated people die for the covid-19, i know this is not scientific

A newly released study from the California Department of Public Health shows that consistently wearing a mask does protect the wearer. Study was conducted prior to Omicron. Given that most masks are better at protecting others from the wearer than protecting the wearer from others this is a good data point in favor of mask mandates.

https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/71/wr/mm7106e1.htm
Neat example of how the game works — you have the big flashy numbers showing how MASKS WORK and then you zoom in on the tiny footnote that says "not statistically significant." What is going on at the CDC??

the not statistically significant is relative to the cloth mask numbers, probably the cloth mask examples are too low

It has come to the forum managers attention that some people are not pronouncing 'Omicron' correctly.

They have asked me to make a small presentation on the correct annunciation of 'Omicron'.

Pronouncing Omicron

https://youtu.be/-GjMbMQGOpA

actually idk how is the right pronounce but would be omicròn, how is read in modern greek, òmicron, in not relevant because this is choice from the ancient greek
