The American Pie spinoff movies are good
There are at least five songs that would make better national anthems than “Star Spangled Banner”

Beyoncé is overrated

Oasis is the worst band of all time, and people would rather candidly discuss their racial prejudices than admit how terrible Oasis is

Both sides of the Israel/Palestine "debate" are terrible, and hearing arguments from one side immediately makes me closer to the other.

I hope this isn’t an unpopular opinion, since this is literally how I feel. Every time I think about Likud’s hackish awfulness my BDS-supporting Libyan friend posts more crap on her Facebook and I snap right back.

So to piggyback off of some other heterodox opinions of trans folk, here’s mine (I’ll add the caveat that I’m open to being convinced otherwise):

I’m skeptical of various theorems put forward by trans advocates about how gender identity works, mostly because it seems like they are applying their fairly unique experience to everyone. More to the point, though, I don’t think gender fluidity is anything more than trans people who may not have realized their gender identity yet, and treating it otherwise does legitimate harm to trans people in particular and homosexual/bisexual people in general (I’m not counting nonbinary people like India’s hijra community when I refer to fluid)

Gone with the Wind is camp and should be renounced by the film community.

More importantly, it's also subtle pro-Confederate propaganda.

“Subtle” is an odd word choice

The movie is basically Harlequin Romance for Lost Causers

Porn is gross. The only acceptable way to view nude people is clips of movies and TV shows with good production values and good actors/actresses

Johnny Unitas is the greatest NFL quarterback of all time, not Tom Brady.

This is actually a very fair debate to have, especially considering how much the modern game favors QBs

Here is a completely non-political one:

-I would root for any team in the SEC over any team not in the SEC.  So my least favorite team in the SEC is my 14th favorite team in college sports.

-I also in general find rooting against a team because they are your rival silly.  I actually tend to respect my rivals and generally root for them when it will not impact my actual team.  Now, in pro sports, that is more rare because of divisional standings, but if my team is not in the playoffs and a rival of my team is, I have no ill will to them.  I pick which teams I don't like completely independently of picking which teams I do like.

The first opinion seems to be common among SEC fans and I just don’t get it. Coming from a world of PAC 12 blood feuds it makes no sense to me.

Cars (2006) and Drive (2011) were both good films.

In what world is saying drive is a good movie an unpopular take?

In mine, Drive was hot garbage

You are correct here. I think that all rap music is trash, as well as all pop and hip-hop music (of 2018 that is, not of the way distant past).
well i don't like her solo stuff as much as destiny's child.idk, doesn't really grab me

The song “Halo” is outstanding because it’s one of the few where she really leans into her strengths as a singer - she has otherworldly pipes, not quite Aretha or Whitney level but close - but her most recent output is just not that good. “Lemonade,” as an album, is especially bad.

Wind farms are, in terms of aesthetics, extremely elegant additions to the landscape.

Agreed.

Both of these are just wrong!

If you’d read the books you’d know that S5 coincides with A Feast For Crows and Dance with Dragons, which not coincidentally is when the books start to suck, too

Nick Saban isn't even the best coach active right now, let alone of all time.

Recruiter? Yes. Coach? No.

Who is?

Chris Petersen at Washington. Followed closely by Bill Snyder at Kansas St. and Gary Patterson at TCU.

I’m a Washington alum and even I don’t agree with this

I would say: yes, but some people are born into the incorrect one, and should thus transition to
The one they were meant to be

Universal free post-secondary is a terrible idea which takes from the poor and gives to the upper middle class and rich. It's a terribly regressive scheme and yet lefties defend it tenaciously.

This is a good take,
Not a bad one.

Gender reveal parties are stupid. I’m against the idea of knowing your child’s gender before birth to begin with but having people over so you can cut into a blue or pink cake or something equally ridiculous is a byproduct of our increasingly narcissistic culture

Ah, the tragedy of genetics - your children as quarters can only be so beautiful

Unless two half-Asian people get married, half-Asian men can often be handsome in their own

All country music recorded after 1990 is crap.

Good country artists post-1990: Turnpike Troubadours, Lucero, early Neko Case, Margo Price, Old 97s, Jason Isbell, Whiskeytown, Lucinda Williams, Drive By Truckers

(by far not an exhaustive list)

Old Crow Medicine Show, Kacey Musgraves.  Not exclusively post-1990 but Steve Earle, Gillian Welch, Maria McKee, Kelly Willis, Dwight Yokam, BR-549...
OCMS is more folk/bluegrass than country. Someone who likes bro-country isn't going to like Gillian Welch or OCMS. You certainly never see young people at a bluegrass festival unless they're me or in the band.

So - is Steve Martin’s bluegrass band actually any good?

Actually, in my view at least, yes. Truegrassers might sneer but I've never had nor heard any complaints.

It’s not really my thing but from what I’ve gleaned he’s good enough that it warranted him essentially retiring from acting, so I’m glad to hear it

I don't know how popular or unpopular this is but... I only have 1 person on ignore.

You can't just say that without telling us who it is.

Let’s just say they did post on page 50 of this thread.

I have somebody on page 50 on ignore too; but I doubt it’s the same person
