March 29th, 2005: Al Qaeda terrorists attempt to attack major population centers

Americans were in complete and utter shock when nine major cities (Los Angeles, Denver, Boston, New York City, Miami, Nashville, Las Vegas, Philadelphia and Detroit) were all almost under attack by terrorists. There were bombs planted in strategic spots to kill as many people as possible. Luckily they were all discovered before they could do damage but this of course made President Gephardt very furious and also forced him to cancel all plans to move out of the Middle East for the time being.

I think only IA and NH are different from Kerry v. Bush.

2006 Election Night

"Greetings, We bring you decision 2006. President Gephardt's presidency so far has been an interesting one. He's had to deal with attempted terrorist attacks and an economy that might be trickling down into recession soon. We have a House, Senate and several governorships at stake.

House:

Republicans 224, Democrats 211

Senate:

Republicans: 55, Democrats 45

It is 7PM on the east coast and we have some projections:

INDIANA:

No surprise that Richard Lugar wins here. He did not have a challenger.

VIRGINIA:

Senator George Allen and challenger Jim Webb are running a close race here. The latest polls had Allen up a few points but Webb has been a surprisingly good challenger.

VERMONT:

Bernie Sanders easily wins here.

So far we project Republicans will retain the house with 227 seats but it's still early.

I imagine OH and PA still flip but Republicans probably hang onto the rest. They probably gain NJ and maybe MD as well. That is assuming that recruitment ins the same as OTL. They could pick up Washington, Florida or California if they run Dino Rossi, Jeb Bush or Arnold.

Skip to end of election night as FalterinArc almost exactly got what happened.

Good morning. It is 8AM and the stories are evident. The Republicans have kept the Senate. They have gained seats in New Jersey, Florida and Maryland and the only held seat they lost was Pennsylvania. Ohio was very close but DeWine held on by 27,000 votes thanks to a strong ground game operation.

CURRENT 2008 POLLING MAP:

We see Gephardt leading a generic Republican by 228 to 183 in the electoral college. It may seem like Gephardt has a clear edge but most of these battlegrounds, especially the ones he carried last time are looking very close at the moment.

As the economy goes downhill soon, Gephardt is going to decline a lot. Since George Allen got re-elected he probably runs for president. I don’t he’s win the primary though.

I always enjoy TLs that prominently feature Gephardt.

His daughter in law is a friend and has the sweetest family.
