The actions can only make so much difference before November — elections are mostly run at the state and local level, and are subject to congressional authority. And some fellow Republicans are warning the president privately and publicly that attempts to restrict mail-in ballots could actually hurt the GOP in November, scaring Republicans from voting remotely even if they also refuse to vote in person during a pandemic. New polling has fueled these concerns.

Seems pretty open-and-shut to me (In before "Republicans will find a way")

I'm suprised how slow this thread has been. Trump won't be able to steal the election at this point, though he may be able to swing a state in his favor or smtg.

Eh, it just started and it's been the same 10-15 folks that were talking about this issue before the megathread. They just don't have to post the same thing across multiple threads now so it seems quieter

Ok, now I'm surprised there isn't much activity in here. There's like 3 threads on the first page that could easily be merged into here, 1 of which is almost as long as this thread

Feels like only a week ago that the bedwetters were saying that it's a 100% chance the Democrats/public would roll over and allow Trump to steal the election 3 months before it happens.

Amazing what happens when an incompetent authoritarian announces his secret plan on the biggest media platforms Roll Eyes

As someone growing up in the early-mid 2000s, I'd take todays teenybopper music over that generation without question. Swift included

THANK YOU SH!TTY TEENYBOPPER MUSICIAN!

Proving that while her music is almost as bad as Kanye's, Taylor Swift is still a more useful and better person. Since she speaking about this means people who wouldn't listen otherwise will.

Take that back Taylor's music is amazing
"Look What You Made Me Do" is one of the worst songs I've ever heard.

I can certainly agree with that. Doesn't take away anything from the great 1989 though

Yeah, this is a great way to help the civilian populace trust law enforcement more.

It's been very interesting seeing the recent (Or not so recent) co-option of law enforcement as a 'right-wing police force' against left-wing cities/populace. Observing election precincts (In inner-cities I presume) by orders of a Republican President attempting to suppress votes certainly doesn't lessen that image.

The favorability/approval of law enforcement is gonna be one of the most interesting trends to follow in the next decade as more Millennials/Zoomers grow up with a hardened & pessimistic perspective of the police & the next generation growing up with the George Floyd protests.

Good thing the incimpotent dictator announced his secret plan over 3 months away from the Election, huh?

Or that Democrats didn't meekly roll over and accept it because "Democrats are weak" or something

Honestly nobody in this country cares, or even understands it, so why should it get such immediate attention?

Dude, take a break from the news & this board and get some rest. It's really getting to you this weekend.

It's almost like you're a.....progressive pessimist Huh

Our democracy is dead

This is legal and has always been legal.

Can't let something like legality get in the way of someones narrative!

I get the feeling things like delaying USPS mail processing & Abbotts move of 1 dropbox per county is gonna bite the GOP hard in the end. Especially among their older and/or rural voters.

Plus, regarding Texas, isn't VBM pretty strict and largely comprise older voters? Last I saw, Trump had a decent lead with Texas voters over 65. I know every vote counts, but this could just push more Democrats to physically vote early in outrage.

When people say "How can anyone think Joe Biden isn't favored in Georgia?!" ^^^

At least it's a more detailed explanation than simply "Kemp voter suppression".

That's all I want!

Deplorable authoritarians.

And with that, Trump keeps Wisconsin.

Didn't even have to guess who liked this post

Looks like Abbotts order limiting drop boxes has been lifted again:

Quote
A Texas judge on Thursday lifted an order by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott that limited counties to a single drop-off location for absentee ballots in the Nov. 3 presidential election, siding with Democrats who have denounced the limit as voter suppression.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/judge-lifts-texas-governor-s-order-limiting-ballot-drop-boxes-n1243580?cid=sm_npd_nn_fb_ma

Wouldn't the earlier US Court of Appeals decision supersede any Texas judge decision?

Have to say, Texas' voter suppression effort isn't going well...

They've certainly worked to add confusion to the dropbox issue, which I guess was the objective?

Regardless, it feels like the Texas GOP are tripping over themselves towards a bad Election night. If anything, all their suppression efforts seem to be doing is increasing Dem turnout/enthusiasm and banking Dem votes even earlier, while also signalling to the nation in big letters "Texas is a purple state".

In a roundabout way.....this was actually good for Biden  Wink

Based on early results I don't think the voter suppression is being very effective!

Who knew Trump making noise about the USPS & essentially writing the Dems GOTV campaign 3 months before the election would lead to Dems getting out the vote??
