No excuse for some of the misses - otherwise it's the coach who has to bring on Openda who would have put those away.

Anaway the end of the Martinez era. I hope we hire a meme like Hein Vanhaezebrouck.

I've lived in the same town Hein was born in, yeah i hope he becomes our manager lol.

Yeah, he was not supposed to play, so I do cut him some slack, and the opportunities he got were mostly not as easy as they looked. Doku was extremely entertaining to watch at times, though.

Doku is a world class player, unfortunately being plagued by many injuries. He's definitely my favourite belgian football player and i think it's clear to see why that is.

If they hold off until the end of the EPL season, Jurgen Klopp could be available (assuming he isn't offered the Germany job instead.).

I don't think I want Jurgen Klopp. Maybe, but we will see. Don't think he's bad tho. But it's not my decision. I don't think the money is there to hire Klopp.

Round of Sixteen Picks:

Netherlands defeat USA 2-1 AET

Argentina defeat Australia 5-0

Croatia defeat Japan 1-0

Brazil defeat South Korea 3-1

England defeat Senegal 4-1

France defeat Poland 3-0

Spain defeat Morocco 5-0

Portugal defeat Switzerland 0-0 on Penalty Kicks.

No upsets? If it was that easy, just take out a 8 way multi-bet and cash in.

especially the margins like...

It's actually quite easier to root for the Dutch this world cup more than others. If there's a feel good story from this world cup it's a terminally ill Louis Van Gaal leading a group of young players and Daley Blind to a decent result. Winning it would obviously be the death of us. But Van Gaal is a genuine legend

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMtGfvvaqYs

I have the dutchies as world champion. They have been twice three times, never been the winner.

Canada is an improving soccer nation, which I think is generally known, but I don't know that anybody knows this: the parallels between the U.S soccer team of 1990 and this Canadian team, with a few differences.

Canada has a lot of talent, just some areas need to be improved (like defence). Offensively, they're good. They also didn't have luck on their side. They should've won to Belgium.

They will be automatically qualified next time as co-hosts and do great in 2026.

I see that oddly nobody has mentioned this. Not only are 8 of the 16 teams that got out of the group stage European with half not being European (what a coincidence!) but in each group, one European team advanced and one non European team advanced.

In all:
8 European
3 Asian
2 South American (Comnebol or whatever it is)
2 African
1 Concacaf.

Maybe nobody but me cares about symmetry like this.

More asian teams than south american is a surprise, don't think that ever happened? Except maybe 2002 or in the 1990s.

It's not going to be Brazil either. They lost. Croatia advances and will play Netherlands or Argentina.

so Croatia is gonna get our curse now?

Since the World Cup has 32 national teams, there is a curse for the national teams which defeated Brazil

France 1998: eliminated in the 1st round in 2002
France 2006: eliminated in the 1st round in 2010
Germany 2014: eliminated in the 1st round in 2018
Belgium 2018: eliminated in the 1st round in 2022

Only Netherlands 2010 escaped this curse.

Would make sense since a lot of the players of the current Croatian team are old.

Argentina vs England would be an amazing final too because of the history.

But yes Morocco would be ok for me too, just don't want France because they did it 4 yrs ago.

I found a different weird statistic. In every tournament under our manager, we eventually lost to the winner of the tournament.

2018: we lost to France who became world champions
2020 euros: we lost to Italy who became European champions
2020-2021 Nations League: we lost to France who won

Who did we lose to right now?

Yes Morocco.

I wonder if there will be riots in Belgium again for the third time in a row after a soccer match with the involvement of the Red Devils.

I heard already honking cars, but so far they're celebrating.

47,327,407 people are Argentine, of whom 149,493 are Afro-Argentines, and who knows, maybe the Afro-Argentine community just isn't interested in football.

Maybe they should just stick with domestic issues, instead of meddling and creating fire in every nation in the world and than be surprised, why do far right parties win all of the sudden, and why don't they want to back the American side.

Hmmm.... i wonder.

Maybe we should ask the same question to the Japanese?

Why are there no black Japanese football players.

All this talk about skin colour only increases racism.

It only stimulates racial conflicts
And it makes one more aware of their skin colour secondly

Whatever is happening now is only dividing more since we start to identify with our "skin colour", instead of removing the barrier which I prefer, one where being white or black or hispanic does not matter in determining what your chances are and how you are being seen. that's the world i want to see.

This talk does THE OPPOSITE.

If we talk about LGBTQ rights, we want to get rid of "gender roles" and "gender stereotypes", i do not want more separate identities, diversity and identity politics where your identity determines whether you get a job or not.

Racism has increased in last 10 years.

What I want is people to be accepted the way they are (without people catering or trying to appeal a certain group, identity or demographic).

I don't want

"you're black so you have to act like a black person"-type of society. I want a "you're black, and that should not matter what job or career you should get and what skin colour your girlfriend should have"-type of society.

No discrimination at all.

They also shouldn't act like they're our newspaper. Washington Post and New York Times have nothing to say outside the USA.

Decisions of Belgium are made in Brussels
Decisions of Argentina are made in Buenos Aires
Decisions of Venezuela are made in Caracas
Decisions of Japan are made in Tokyo

or someone elsewhere in their country.

Not in Washington or New York.

lol, if you go to the twitter of the author of the article she has retweeted a bunch of people praising her for standing up to the truth and how everyone that commented is either a troll or a hater. This seems like a common woke trope, how can you argue with people like this?

Fighting fake news with spreading fake news theirselves, that's what she does. And this is the kind of globalism people (rightfully) hate, at least used in this extent and in this way/context.

Not the best examples, lol.

Maybe not, but I just don't believe other nations and esp. media of such a nation should debate issues of a foreign nation to this extent. I just don't believe in interfering in a different nation to a large extent, only diplomatic and peaceful ways.
