Option 1. Especially since this option allows me to live in Minneapolis and not live in Los Angeles.

Yeah, I'd rather live in Minneapolis. Though if you switch LA with San Fransisco...

I have fixed costs that dont vary wherever I live, so LA might allow me to make a salary (though other costs could be an issue, it is LA after all) where I could pay those costs faster.  But honestly, in their absence, I'd rather be in Minneapolis...would rather be in the Bos-Wash over everything else.

LA for several reasons, assuming it is not more than 2.5 times more expensive than Minneapolis.

1.  Climate.  I'd rather live in a warmer area.

2.  I prefer cities.

LA is about 1.3 times as expensive overall as compared to the Twin City metro area. It is only housing costs that are way up there. Other stuff is quite cheap often, since among other things,  the place is crawling with hard working Hispanics - legal and illegal. Plus the mild climate keeps costs associated with cold down, such as heating costs, snow removal and the like.

I really have no need to have more than a studio until I get married again....so it's not really money at this point, so long as I can have insurance, a nice car, be able to go on nice vacations and be able to pursue my hobbies. Therefore, its really the place that will give me the most access to advancement and a second chance to start a family.

Minneapolis because it seems pretty similar to Seattle. I like cool to cold weather(it is a little too cold in Minneapolis though), I like "intellectual" and "high tech" cities over diverse ones and Minneapolis has less traffic and sprawl.

I'm not so sure if Minneapolis strikes me as either intellectual or high-tech. LA has more well-known uni's than all of Minnesota (at least UCLA and USC, CalTech even).

LA likely has more universities/colleges and more high-tech companies (especially NASA-Jet Propulsion Laboratories).

Although I love hockey.... my answer is LA.  Summers aren't brutally hot and you don't have to deal with snow and extreme cold which I hate.  My ideal climate is probably Ireland or the Pacific Northwest.  Where I am now, I've put on my AC and heat in the same day in my car.  Not kidding.

Minneapolis is actually well known for being intellectual and high tech.  It has a very robust high tech industry mostly focused in the medical fields.  The University of Minnesota is also one of the better research universities in the nation.

Anybody who would choose L.A. over Minneapolis 'because Minneapolis doesn't strike them as being intellectual or high tech obviously hasn't done their research.

As far as climate goes, to each their own.  Yeah, it gets cold here... but I'd argue that Minneapolis has better weather overall than Phoenix, Denver, or New Orleans.  It's easy to say you like 'warmer climates' when you don't ever go outside.  But if you never go outside, then who cares if it's -20˚F once or twice a year?

It's mainly because I want to start working again to support myself, and maybe even a family if I'm lucky enough.  Smiley  The scene down here is too slow for the things I want to accomplish.

Well, you will be neighbors with my nephew perhaps. He has decamped to my aunt's Beverly Hills mansion for the moment (Charlie Chaplin's old pad, or one of them, and my aunt claims she sees Charlie's ghost while swimming in the pool - ya, she is a drama queen). The amenities are considerably better than the place I bought, which is in the white heat now of re-construction, particularly since the gas is off for various reasons at the moment, so there is no hot water. There is also a full time staff of 3, while my "staff" is merely appended as it were, and that's it!  He may never return. Tongue

Good luck with your family plans, Ronnie. You only live once.  Go for it - do it, just do it.  Pity that I am an "old," and that boat has left the dock with me not on it.
