To quote the inimitable Harry Callahan, the man is a legend, in his own mind.

Yes.  Slightly.  Tom Coburn is so unbelievably stupid and just so subhuman in his thoughts and reasonings that it wouldn't surprise me if he wears an adult diaper.

Jim Inhofe on the issues is a moralfag and a bigot and I don't like him at all, but in terms of administrative ability he is still competent enough to serve as United States Senator.

I agree.  Also, Coburn can project enough intelligence and faux compassion to deceive a number of people who may be clueless about his ultra-theocratic tendencies.  Inhofe lacks the style and the "presentation" to bamboozle a plurality of people.  Except, of course, the Oral Roberts-style Okies.  (Thank God for Mechman...else I would think the entire state was a lost cause.)

I think in my case it is more of a case of upbringing. Both sides of my family are from the Mountain West (mom New Mexico and Arizona, dad far west Texas (he could walk into New Mexico)) and have quite the libertarian streak. My father's parents especially got into hot water with their neighbors because they were Republicans against segregation. When they visited us in Tulsa when I was in 1st grade they said they were shocked at how openly racist and homophobic Oklahomans were. My parents agreed. We have many Okie friends, my parents let Okies babysit me, Okies let me babysit their kids, I do not hate Okies, in fact the reason why it bothers me so much that Okies are extreme moralfags is because I love and care for them. It's one thing to hear about ignorant hateful bigots on the news, it's another thing when those same bigots happen to be the people you care about. It's how ironic how the world works: As the craziness of Okies only made my parent's belief in a caring and loving god who sent his son to die for all of humanity, it only made me lose my faith in such a god.

He is one of only a 20 or so Senators that has been willing to stand up Amnesty publically. There are more of course but they are not as vocal. Coburn is better cause Coburn also opposes pork barrell spending and he stood up to Ted Stevens after Stevens said Coburn was hurting the party by exposing his activities, Coburn responded by saying "No, Senator, you are the one damaging our party". Not many first term Senators will stand up to a 40 year incumbent like that on an issue of honesty.

Didn't he also say the birthers "have a point"? Don't recall any Democratic Senators giving that kind of a shout out to the 9/11 truthers.

Why would they? Inhofe is further to the right than, say, Bernie Sanders is to the left.

Coburn is one of my favorite senators. He is truly not apart of the Political establishment. He stands up for his beliefs and doesn't give a crap if people hate him for it.

Ted Stevens was  not a real republican, becuase if he was he would've dropped out of the 2008 race. But his greed and corruption won't let him.

That scumbag should rot in prison with Tom DeLay, Don Young, Dan Murtha, Lisa and Frank Murkowski, Ben Stevens, and Charles Rangel.

He was just standing up for his beliefs and not giving a crap about what the political price would be.
