Let say that following real-life President Rutherford B. Hayes suggestion by 1878 constitutional amendment has been passed, allowing all successive White House occupant to serve just one six-years term. No limit on V.P.

How would this affect the history?

To be honest, it was hard finding good Presidential Candidates in some areas due to a lack of them, not to mention having to judge the conditions involved.

Elihu Root brings the United States into World War I in late 1915, which is extremely unpopular following several reversals on the Western Front. As a result, the Democrats win in 1916, allowing them to continue into the Roaring Twenties.

Roosevelt goes down the same way Hoover did, though not by such a large margin, due to his "New Deal". It is not enough, however, to completely put it off, and unemployment is around 18% by the time he leaves office.

Landon and Dewey were Internationalists, and thus conduct World War II much the same way FDR did in OTL. However, they are much harder on the Soviet Union, though there is no actual difference in result.

Truman narrowly win in 1946, and follows a virtual copy of his own term in OTL. The Korean War brings down the Democratic Party in the '52 Election.

Lodge leads the US into the Vietnam War, resulting in Romney's defeat against Johnson. The only reason Lodge was able to run for a second term after Nixon's assassination was because he had served less then half of it.

Johnson is a much more Conservative version of himself, following closely with Wallace's ideology. Carter's term is just as disastrous, and Byrd can not save the Democrats from defeat, even when the economy begins to recover by early 1982.

Ronald Reagan is a Centrist or Moderate, having grown up with Liberal Republican policies. As a result, he creates a Libertarian Revolution for the Republican Party, moving it closer to the center, but still left-leaning. John Anderson's Presidency reverses this trend.

History from then on is much like OTL. Bob Dornan was an unexpected suprise President, and Buchanan was only narrowly approved as Vice-President. The Conservative trend created by their relatively short term in office was only increased by that of Connecticut Governor George W. Bush. The Iraq War, however, ended the Democratic Parties short period of dominance, with a Republican Landslide in Congress, and Kerry's victory over Thompson in the Presidential Election.

The Republican Party and Democratic Party have basically reversed roles, due to Republican Presidents mainly being Liberal Northerners, while Democratic ones have typically been Conservative Southerners. As a result, politicians you would expect to be in one party by the 1990's are in fact the other one. The Reform Party is also much stronger typically carrying between 8 and 9 percent of the vote in national elections. The Perot candidacy in 1994 is the main reason typically given as to why Kemp lost the Presidency.

Sorry if I am rambling.........

Lyndon Johnson can't ever become President if the Southern Strategy shift isn't going to happen. (That is, he would be an inevitable catalyst for a serious rupture in the Democratic Party between pro- and anti-Civil Rights politicians.) Also, Reagan would never win a Republican nomination if the shift of rural conservatives to the Republicans isn't begun by the Southern Strategy. (Replace him with George H. W. Bush and you're fine; similarly, George W. Bush would never become President if his father is never President, and I doubt he'd be a different party from his father even if ideologically he fits with the reactionary Democratic Party of this timeline.)

George Wallace's ideology was not Conservative, he was even more of a big spender than OTL LBJ. Yeah he was a racist, but thats it.

Lydon Johnson and George Wallace are almost identical in this timeline. The only notable difference is that, while Johnson personally is against segregation, he believes that the goverment has any right to interfere, regarding it as a state issue. As for George Wallace, safe to say, he is more of a radical.

I did not notice that detail. That would make John G. Carlisle Acting President before Sherman's inaugeration on the 20th of March. I'll update my list. However, I am not sure if he would accept the presidency or not, since it would have been for such a short time. I'll just assume that he would.

This is if Huey Long had survived, in continuation of my previous timeline.

32) Huey Long (P-LA)/ William E. Borah (P-ID) 1935-1940|Burton K. Wheeler (P-MT) 1940-1941
33) Burton K. Wheeler (P-MT)/ Huey Long (P-LA) 1941-1947
34) Harold Stassen (P-MN)/ Huey Long (P-LA) 1947-1953
35) Douglas McArthur (P-AK)/ Huey Long (P-LA) 1953-1959
36) Richard Nixon (P-CA)/ Huey Long (P-LA) 1959-1963
37) Huey Long (P-LA)/ Stuart Symington (P-MO) 1963-1965
38) Stuart Symington (P-MO)/ Huey Long (P-LA) 1965-1971
39) George Wallace (P-AL)/ Huey Long (P-LA) 1971-1973|Jim Eastland (P-MS) 1973-1975
40) Ronald Reagan (R-IL)/ Howard Baker (D-KY) 1975-1985
41) Howard Baker (D-KY)/ Bob Dole (R-NE) 1985-1989
42) Michael Dukakis (D-CT)/ Paul M. Simon (D-IA) 1989-1993
43) Mario Cuomo (D-NJ)/ Bill Clinton (D-SC) 1993-1997
44) Richard Luger (R-MI)/ John McCain (R-CO) 1997-2001
45) John McCain (R-CO)/George W. Bush (R-GA) 2001-2005
46) Howard Dean (D-ME)/ John Kerry (D-RI) 2005-2009
47) Duncan Hunter (R-WA)/ Mike Huckabee (R-LA) 2009-Current

32) William Borah dies of a cerebral hemmorrhage.

36) Richard Nixon is assasinated while giving a speech in Chicago. Long is distraut, having considered Nixon his natural successor.

39) Long suffers a massive heart attack. Without his leadership, the Populist Party slowly loses control over the country to dissedents. Their power collapses in late 1975.

40) Ronald Reagan runs a joint administration with Democratic leader Howard Baker. An amendment is passed that rectifies the consitution to its pre-1934 status. It also sets a term to four years, while also limiting the Vice-President to one term. However, it explicitly allows Ronald Reagan and Howard Baker an unlimited amount of terms, or at least until the country can get back on its feet following the 2nd American Revolution.
