So there's this thing I've been pondering for a while. Utah is considered to be one of the Republicans' safest states, and the idea that it would turn Democratic even in a huge landslide is mostly quite silly.

However what I've been wondering is, could a moderate Democratic mormon flip the state? For example we have New Mexico senator Tom Udall. If he were nominated to run for president, could he win Utah against a non-mormon republican. Is religion a big enough issue for the inhabitans for Democrats to have a victory there? Will it have any effect?
