Reagan was ahead 20 points before the first debate, slipped to being up 10 before the second debate and proceeded to go back up to 20 after the "draw" in the second debate.

SUSA Western state results:

Colorado (511 adults who watched entire debate)

42% Bush
41% Kerry
16% No Clear Winner

California (510 adults who watched entire debate)

38% Bush
48% Kerry
13% No Clear Winner

Oregon (532 adults who watched entire debate)

38% Bush
47% Kerry
15% No Clear Winner

Washington (498 adults who watched debate in full)

36% Bush
49% Kerry
14% No Clear Winner

All seem pretty consistent with a very slight Kerry victory.

Eh, I'm extremely skeptical of such polls.

For instance, some Republicans might not like Bush's style and might say Kerry 'won' the debate- especially after Bush's first performance, but that has no bearing on their vote.

Gore was thought to have won on the issues, but yet the debates were seen as hurting him (though I am not sold on this).

Bush has, at the very least, put his campaign in a position to regain momentum. The memory of the debate will fade, but avoiding a clear Kerry win was critical- because it allows the Bush campaign to really get back on track.

Nope, no Kerry victory in this one, slight or otherwise. A dead-on tie at very best.

The polling out of CO has been problematic at best with most of these polls and the other states are Democratic states anyway, coupled with the fact that I have a hard time with these snap polls anyway.

We'll need till about the middle/end of next week to sort it all out. Bush certainly didn't hurt himself, and I don't see where Kerry did that well.

What a farce.   That "debate" showed exactly why we need all of the candidates to be included.  Almost no good questions.  And what was the deal with the "Kerry will you look into the camera and promice you won't raise taxes question?"  At that point it was clear the whole thing had been completely scripted.  I'm not wasting time watching the next one.

After the 1st debate performance, a draw is a win for Bush.

Spin away...

The Rule of Rassilon: He who wins loses, he who loses wins.

This was a tie. I don't know what Rassilon would say about that.

Oh, so you can have a piss-poor performance, so that makes mediocrity ok?

Could Bush have possibly performed as badly as his first debate? That would have took some beating even for him.

I think both Republicans and Democrats will be satisfied with there guy last night.

We'll have to wait and see what impact this has on the undecideds.

Probably.  BTW, Kerry said "The President" 68 times and said "plan" 33 times.

Interesting. ;-) Where did you get that from?
