I have received a lot of PMs about the position, and I want you to know that I am and will continue to look over them all.
Disregard them all - they're all a pack of lies.

I don't want to stress you Mr President, but tick tack, tick tack...

If it's truly so even between them that nothing else works just write their names on three pices of paper, switch the papers around so you don't know which ones which, and pick the one who's username ends with an L.

Announcement

Good morning, ladies and gentleman. After over two weeks of careful deliberation and decision-making, I have finally made my pick. Today I will be announcing my nominees for Chief Justice and the new Associate Justice.

First, and to keep you in suspense, I am proud to nominate current Associate Justice Sam Spade for the position of Chief Justice. It's common knowledge that Justice Spade and I have had our ideological disagreements in the past; it's clear that we don't see eye to eye on every issue. But in his time both on the court and in Atlasia, Justice Spade has evidenced the knowledge, commitment and experience I feel is most necessary in a Chief Justice. With his background on the court, and his experience in writing decisions, asking questions of petitioners and other duties, I feel confident in placing this responsibility in his hands.

Second, today I will be announcing my nominee for associate justice. This was truly one of the most difficult decisions I've ever had to make. The candidates I picked between were superbly qualified and incredibly intelligent and evidenced, both in their discussions with me about the position and their work in Atlasia, a commitment to the sort of hard work and responsibility that goes along with the position. But a decision had to be made.

I am proud to announce my nomination of Senator Marokai Blue for the position of Associate Justice. In his time in Atlasia, as Attorney General, Senator and through his actions as a private citizen and journalist, he has shown the kind of commitment to the law that is so necessary in a Supreme Court justice. Furthermore, I believe that the Senator has one of the best work ethics of any in government, and, with his pointed and intelligent commentary and criticisms of the supreme court earlier this year, I am confident that he will be able to make the court more efficient and more responsive. Lastly, I believe that he has a great understanding of the necessity of the law and its interpretation. Senator Marokai's presence on the court, I am confident, will make it a better institution.

I hope the Senate moves quickly on these two well-qualified nominees and, after a full and fair Senate hearing, speedily confirms them.

Thank you, and Dave Bless Atlasia.

Thank you Mr. President for nominating Sam Spade instead of opebo, whom I expected. My opinion of you has gone up significantly.

Legislating from the bench here we come with Marokai and Opebo! But a good pick in Sam Spade for CJ.

An excellent choice for Chief Justice, I think he will do excellent. I'm a bit sad that you nominated Marokai though, as we may have needed him in the Senate. Oh well, both good choices, Mr. President.

Ah, now this could well be a 'fun' court, yes.

(in interests of disclosure/lulz I sent a joke application in, with a picture of Yosser Hughes and everything. I think there was some other stuff in it as well, though it seems that I didn't save myself a copy. I call upon the President to post it in this thread!)

While I like Marokai in many ways, I am unsure if he'll be able to not let his emotions and personal biases interfere with his ability to be objective. However, I'll wait and see what the Senate thinks and what he does in cases if/when he's confirmed.

Here's a bit of an ignorant question though Tongue

Since I'm PPT and a Senator, surely I don't open my own hearing and vote on myself..

I would defer to the VP to preside over the hearing. Many Senators have abstained on their own confirmations in the past, though I'm sure there are examples of Senators voting for themselves.

Marokai Blue is an excellent choice and will make a valuable addition to the court.

Sorry to see one of the best PPTs I can remember leave though.

Well, I'd like to thank the President for the nomination, even though I am a bit surprised.

The new Court will be interesting.

Question. Do I need to open confirmations for both Spade's promotion and Marokai Blue for AJ, or just the latter?

Not knowing the answer to this question, you understand, makes you ineligible for a place on this Court.  So sorry.

History question:  What happened when President Reagan nominated Justice William Rehnquist for Chief Justice and then nominated Antonin Scalia for the position of Associate Justice?

You're too hard on us, Spade. It's just called confusion with Atlasian procedure.
