For the Republican nomination, that is.

Hey, why the hell not? It makes more sense than half the other suggestions we've seen here.

It'd be nice if the GOP recognized that he's a common-sense conservative, but then we'd need to run a left-winger on the Democratic line.

I don't like it. The GOP might win.

Unless Democrats nominate a White, of course. Any White. The next crazy guy panhandling you in Berkeley will do. Then it's over for the GOP.

Have I satisfied the spirit of the thread?

In 3.5 years, the Democrats might be begging Obama to run as a Republican.

He'll get in fierce battle with Nancy Pelosi in the Republican primaries, but he loses at the convention.

I've seen it happen before in some local races.  Jack O'Connell (currently California Superintendent of schools) managed to get both the Democratic and Republican nominations for the 35th assembly district back in 1988.

But I just don't see this happening at a national level.

This is fairly common in legislative races in PA.

We can only hope that the Republicans will put country before party and support our President's re-election in these trying times.

I'd support this idea. Then we could run a real leftie. He'd lose but it'd certainly be an interesting campaign.

Probably in 2008 in Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee, maybe also in 2012.

Does Obama bring Biden with him, or does he pick Palin?
