The Rockefeller brothers win almost by default. McCarthy and McGovern have nothing to offer except their anti war stance and the prospect of huge tax increases to finance their grandiose, pie in the sky social schemes.
The Rockefellers would as well oppose the war and promise to get the U.S. out as quickly as possible, so the war issue would be somewhat neutral.
With no third party candidate running, the Rockefellers win the south by default, as Nelson Rockefeller with Winthrop Rockefeller on the ticket would be more palatable to southern voters than would either McCarthy or McGovern.
