Callaghan V Thatcher 1978

This is probably one of the biggest "What if's?" in British political history. Callaghan considered calling an election in the Autumn of 1978, but thought the economy would get better. Then of course, there was the Winter of Discontent which more or less ended Labour's hopes of winning the 1979 Election.
