My heart says Limousin Auvergne. Massif Central in other words. Good memories of my childhood in Puy-de-Dôme and Corrèze.

I love, the landscapes of the area of Marseille and Sète.

Well, other than that, I can't really say I have a favorite region.

Be careful, Hash said "excluding your home/native region"...

A problem for me, as I was born in Bordeaux (Aquitaine) and as I think it's my favourite region, without any problem
- the prettiest city in France after Paris: Bordeaux; its architecture is marvelous;
- the magnificent Perigord with those almost yellow walls and rocks, with its history and with its "foies gras";
- the wines of Bordeaux, best in the world (I mean big names in Médoc, Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, Graves and Sauternes, not the small wines which can be awful);
- nice and not too high mountains in Pyrenees;
- the fantastic sandy coast of Médoc and Landes;
- the wonderful bassin d'Arcachon;
- the mild smelling of the Landes forest;
- the beautiful waves of the ocean in Médoc and Pays Basque;
- the good climate (but without the vulgarity and FN voters of Languedoc and Provence...)
etc...

I can't choose Brittany as I live here (but I wouldn't: around Rennes, it's much too sad: no hills, no forests, no lakes, no beautiful architectures, not many castles....and elsewhere in Bretagne, apart from the coasts and the old castles, the countryside is sad and architecture of houses, especially since 1980s, is disgusting)
(no offense, Hash Wink ).

So I pick Alsace: good wines, good food, wonderful Vosges, nice curves of the Rhin, wonderful villages and cities (Colmar, Riquewihr, Kaysersberg, Ottrott, etc) and unique views of almost all the region from Vosges-mont Ste-Odile.
A very homogeneous region with fine architecture.

Of course, some areas of Basse-Normandie, of vallée de la Loire, of the Alps, of Jura, of Aveyron are beautiful. Paris is very fine. Quercy is very beautiful (department of Lot in Midi-Pyrenees). Roussillon is fine.
But, in all of these cases, another parts of the region are common or even bad. So...

I must say I don't know Corsica at all.

Héhé. Which is fine given that I left my native city (Chamonix), 3 weeks after I've been born, and moved a lot of time then, mainly in the big south part of France.

Well, in the whole France I find beautiful things, but my favorite parts remain those I cited.

And Corsica, hmm, I went there a few days, I stayed in the north of the island, and that has been the first time I had been so marked by what can be the insularity, I really had a feeling of isolation there, even in an animated city like Bastia, from which we can also see the Italian costs sometimes IIRC.

Limousin appears to be the most socialist, so I vote for them. (Brings new meaning to the phrase Limousine Liberal! Wink )

However, my favourite part of France is St. Pierre and Miquelon. And, I'd probably rather live in the Rhones-Alpes region, where there is some curling activity.

Which region have you voted for, Hash ?

PdL? Yuck, no. I'd never vote for a fake abomination.

I voted for Corse. I'm all over any regionalist movements, I like the people, and I hear the island is absolutely beautiful. I also like Alsace, Rhone-Alpes (Grenoble and the region I've heard is nice), backcountry PACA (I've been to Nice and the Cote, it's typical tourist stupidities - but I loved the backcountry and remoter locations along the Italian border), Normandie (though Le Havre, from what I've seen, is an ugly overturned ashtray). I'm also interested in the Massif Central - Lozere, Cantal, Haute-Loire in particular. Also parts of other regions but I don't know enough about them. The Nord is not a nice region, but the people are very nice. Ile-de-France is probably my least favourite.

If I had allowed myself, I'd obviously vote for Breizh.

Eh, if you like castles, the Loire River is a better place for that. Though there are nice castles - Pontivy, Nantes, Vitré, Fougeres, Combourg. I love the coast and nature and I'm not too much of a mountains fan, so I obviously like Bretagne a lot. My favourite place is Finistere Sud (Crozon, Quimper, Pointe du Raz, Locronan, Landudec).

The Rennes suburbia is pretty bad, though. Lots of small empty bourgs, typical houses, little to do. Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande is especially ugly. Though inner city is nice.

Limousin appears to be the most socialist, so I vote for them. (Brings new meaning to the phrase Limousine Liberal! Wink )

Limousin socialists are most certainly not liberals. Especially the type in Limousin.

Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon is not a region - it's a TOM (territory).

I was using the term in the American sense, as it is an American term. I'm not stupid, I know socialists aren't Liberals Tongue

I know, I've forgotten to put a Wink in my post...

Don't believe Grenoble is a nice city: it's a sprawling and overcrowded modern city, blocked by mountains around it, very polluted as air doesn't move enough.
Of course, when you're student and you like skiing, you don't mind and are pleased to live in Grenoble for some years.
Annecy, Chambéry and, in the south, Briançon or Embrun are far nicer Alpes cities.

"Lmousine" is also a fine car in Frenche and a cow species (good and savvy meat...) !

Mmh. Didn't know Grenoble was bad. I meant to include Savoie, I know there are a lot of beautiful places there.
