No.  I imagine 75% or more of the country wishes Kerry had won in '04.  Democrats because it would have saved us from Bush's second term, and Republicans because it would have prevented Bush from destroying the party.

Personally, I am.

For Obama supporters, I'd say they all answer the same, since a Kerry 2004 victory would likely mean no President Obama now.

I'd rather have President Kerry any day.

Which is why I'm happy that Bush won that year. Grin

Call me crazy but I don't really think Kerry's first (and probably only) term would be all that different from GWB's second . . .

Interestingly the point at which history would have had to diverge to prevent the current depression was 1980 at the latest.  2004 was not relevant to much except who got blamed.

I imagine that people who used to live in New Orleans wish Kerry had been president.

Outside of that and a possible withdrawal from Iraq (which Obama has shown us probably wouldn't have happened as quickly as Kerry's campaign suggested), I agree with Ron that not much would have changed.

Seeing as how I regard John Kerry as one of my personal heroes, militarily and politically, no.  I think he would have made a fine President.  Eight years of Kerry, followed by eight years of Obama would suit me just fine.

How can you possibly know that?  The fact that he came so close to dethroning Karl Rove is very impressive.  With 4 good years under his belt, he ought to have been the favorite in 2008.

I actually don't think Katrina would have been handled much differently either.

It's doubtful something like Katrina would have happened just because weather patterns are so easy to disrupt. Some other major hurricane might have though. In any case, there's no way Kerry could have been as massively incompetent across the board.

That was more anti-Bush than pro-Kerry, though.  I agree that he would've been a better candidate in 2008 than he was in 2004, but he sucked in 2004.  He would've had a very tough time winning again in 2008.

President Obama > Senator Kerry, so yeah. I also think Kerry would have been a 1-termer.

It wasn't so much that it was "so bad." Yes, there were bad points but it was just a total letdown. I can only think of two things I approved of during the second term (the Supreme Court appointments and the surge).

Anyway, yes, I'm glad Kerry isn't President and here's my political reasoning: Kerry's term would have probably been basically the same as Bush's. The GOP would have been hailed in 2006 and 2008 as the saviors. We'd be insanely built up and then turn out to be a total let down...which I think is a real possibility now with the Dems...

Two Supreme Court appointments is enough reason for me to say we'd be better off today if Kerry had won, though obviously the GOP would probably still control Congress, so I guess Kerry would've had to appoint "moderates" anyway.....

Yes, because (a) he would have governed to Obama's right, and (b) the Democratic Party would have been destroyed anyway.
