I'm surprised I haven't seen a post on this yet.  Yeah Yeah I read the disclaimer on the homepage.  I think the guy running this site...his name is Dave Leip, right?

Even so, why can't he just shut down the website for as long as it takes to change the colors?  The BLUE Republicans and RED Democrats are really starting to mess with my mind.  If time is really such an issue, maybe he could hire an expert web designer or something?

I don't mean to be rude but that's just the way I see it.  YES, I know the colors are blue for Conservatives and Red for Labour/left of center parties in Europe...but this isn't Europe.

So, what do you guys think about this situation?  Yeah, my mind can handle the inverted colors so don't even try the pathetic insults.  Clearly, a normal color scheme would make the site better for users.

I look forward to your opinions!

No.  I've gotten used to the colors here.  It's really not that hard to adjust.

I debated whether or not to post something civil, and came to the conclusion to tell you that, you are about to make a lot of enemies if you continue to defend this.

I don't understand what you are saying.

Why would I make enemies defending one of my opinions?  Oh I'm so scared...I'm new here and it's a legitimate question.  I'm not violating any forum rules.

I suspect many of you are just voting no because you couldn't live without atlas for a couple of days or don't like me.  Those aren't good reasons to vote no.

I have no problems with the current color scheme so I see no need to change.

By the way, this probably belongs in The Atlas board.

The current color scheme is far superior.

Essentially the reason is this - Dave doesn't have the time to redo all of those maps.  It's not doing any harm to keep it the way it is, so what would be the point in changing it if it meant days and days of work?

No.  It's really easy to get used to the Atlas color scheme.

Wikipedia used to have there presidential elections prior to 2000 the way it is on here. Then some dickhead changed it and it screwed up some my maps that I was making based off there info. I think this site should stay the way it is, prior to 2000 the colors were how they are on here. In fact Reagan's 84 landslide was called a "Sea of Blue". I think wikipedia should also change its 1996 and prior Presidential elections back to the way they were.

Not really...I've never understood why some newbies think the site needs to change to suit their needs.

This way is more consistent with how it has been throughout history. Republicans & Democrats today are very much an aberration.

The site shouldn't change to suit my needs.

It should change to suit the needs of America.

America sees Republicans as RED and Democrats as BLUE.

For the last 20 years maybe.  Then again the average american is likely to be pretty ignorant about what those political colors have generally been accepted to mean.

Agree. No one uses it anymore and it makes for confusing commentary. It's not like this is Britain or something.

Because every single map on the web site (some of them made manually) would have to be changed, the conversion process would be confusing practically and technically, and the current scheme works just fine.  Smiley

America sees Republicans as RED and Democrats as BLUE.

Americans also donates their lives to "Jon and Kate Plus 8" and listening to Lady Gaga. Enough said.

Fair enough.  But either way, if Dave wanted to change to change the scheme, he would have done so long ago.

I know that traditionally the colors blue and red were opposite of what they are now.

The point is that for now, Republicans are red and Dems blue.

Although I will admit that at first I was confused too, I got acquainted with this system rather quickly. It is not as difficult as it may seem at first.

Irrelevant. The majority opinion doesn't make something right.

The colors on this website make more sense. Red has traditionally represented leftist political parties, while blue has represented conservative parties.

True but every media outlet uses it now. Plus both parties have pretty much made it official, just going by their websites and all that.

Leip acknowleges that it is indeed common in the media for Democrats to be red and for Republicans to be blue. His points remain however, that the disadvantages of changing the color scheme outweigh the advantages.
