Apologies -- Anne Northrup is a Republican.  It's hard to do these lists when I have distractions.  "No honey, you may NOT cut your own hair!"  Kids...

I thought about including Barkley and Happy Chandler but for sanity's sake, I am cutting things off (generally) at 1965.  Good catch, though.  Definitely an important name.

My vote goes to Carl D. Perkins, for his instrumental work in creating Head Start, the Perkins student loan and other groundbreaking programs.  A Southern Baptist liberal...those were the days!

Honorable mention to John S. Cooper!

One vote for John Sherman Cooper.  Among the best moderate Republicans in the industry.  Despite being from one of the more culturally conservative states, he showed great courage and foresight in voting for the the civil rights act of '64, and working with Frank Church to limit Nixon's expansion of the Vietnam War.

It would be cool if there were a Tom Collins for Governor or Congress.  He'd get my vote!

Geoff Davis, Ron Lewis, Ed Whitifield, Mitch McConnell, Trey Grayson, Anne Northup, Ben Chandler, and Jim Bunning before he went senile. Happy Chandler, and Alben Barkley among pre-1965 politicians.

Bunning is a senile old cook; you might as well try to talk baseball with Ty Cobb.
