More than 50% of the vote is in, and Deeds still has over 50% of the vote.

It's Deeds vs. McDonnell, folks.

Anyone looked at the numbers for the mountain counties? Some are over 95% Deeds.

Anyway, no sweep for Deeds; McAuliffe took Greensville County (where Deeds actually came third). That's one of the black-majority counties.

Not surprising. Check out the Lt. Governor primary results from 2005:

https://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/state.php?year=2005&off=6&elect=1&fips=51&f=0

Phil Puckett was the SWVA candidate.

Unbelievable -nearly 60% of the vote is in, and Deeds still is winning over 50% of it.

McAuliffe also won Amelia, Tazwell, and Wise Counties, and Norton City. He's currently winning Hampton and Newport News as well.

Moran won Alexandria and is winning Petersburg.

Everything else is Deeds Country right now.

I think the general election just got a lot more competitive. Look at the margins Deeds is getting in the 6th and 9th districts. McDonnell is very much a suburban candidate. If Deeds can hold NVA, and sweep the SW he is in good shape.

McAulliffe's consolation prize: winning a bunch of random, low-population counties in central and southern Virginia.

There's a list of county/city results here, but no one's made a map yet (hint hint).

Is there a decent chance Creigh could finish with over 50%?

I hope Moran pulls it out for second place.

I'm with you -I would like nothing better than to have McAuliffe humiliated by not just failing to win the nomination, but in coming in dead last as well.

Especially considering he's raised over 7 million dollars.

I think that would speak very well of the VA primary electorate.  Webb beating that one dude who outspent him 4-1 and Deeds perhaps by about the same margin or a bit more.

Moran and Terry narrowly lead (by a few tenths of a percentage point) in the 8th (NoVA, Jim Moran's district) and the 3rd (Richmond), respectively. Deeds leads easily in the other 9 districts.

Though it doesn't mean that he won't win it later on if and when Big Jim decides to retire...

77% in:

Deeds - 110,133 (49.9%)
McAuliffe - 58,243 (26.4%)
Moran - 52,203 (23.7%)

Deeds just pulled ahead in the 8th.

Looks like Deeds will finish above 48%, if not 49%.
