Jan 1995 Sad President Bill Clinton (D-AR) is running for a 2nd term. Now many republicans are  being considered as candidates. Including Speaker Gingrich of Georgia and Gov. Bush of Texas.

No one announced a run yet. But Newt Gingrich is expected to.  On Jan 28th 1995 ,Republican Governor of Texas George W. Bush states he will not run for president. Soon after fmr Gov of TN Lamar Alexander announced he'll run for president. Later on CBS , Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA) announces he will run for president. Both republicans campaign in Iowa the rest of the month.

Feb 1995 Sad Soon in Feb ,John McCain and Dick Cheney announce they'll run for president.  And  on Feb 20th , 3 more republcians announced runs , Bob Dole, Colin Powell and Newt Gingrich .

The primary is expected to get more crowded.

Polls :

Gingrich : 40%
McCain : 35%
Cheney : 15%
Dole : 6%
Powell : 2%
Alexander : 1%
Specter : 1%

It looks like McCain and Gingrich are the only major candidates. All of them campaign on Economic issues , like lowering taxes and less Govt Spending.

March 1995 Sad

GOP Polls :

Gingrich : 35%
McCain : 35%

Cheney : 25%
Dole : 6%
Powell : 2%
Alexander : 1%
Specter : 1%

Cheney is catching up , as he takes a strong stance against Clinton's  policies on Foreign issues and the 1993 World Trade Center bombings. Cheney says it's time to have a real leader in Foreign Policy.

Gingrich campaigned mainly on fiscal issues , trying to make him  look able to take on Clinton. Specter is making himself look really stupid by complementing ,yes ,complementing President Clinton and then he flip-flopped on a few issues like 40 times.

April 1995 Sad

GOP Polls :

Gingrich : 36%
Cheney : 34%
McCain : 20%
Dole : 3%
Powell : 1%
Alexander : 1%
Specter : 0%

After getting 0% in the latest polls ,Arlen Specter drops out ,realizing he completely  killed his chances. Many people say that Colin Powell will make major gians soon ,as he recently defeated everyone in a CNN Debate. Dick Cheney is becoming a threat to Gingrich now. McCain is fading away.

May 1995 Sad Gov. George W. Bush endorses Dick Cheney for President. Bush said America needs a man who knows how to protect  the nation. Bush traveled to 12 states to help Cheney campaign. Colin Powell rises in the polls after  giving a very good speech in Iowa saying he knows how to deal with our foreign and domestic problems. McCain states Powell is a good man ,but gravely misguided.

GOP Polls :

Gingrich : 26%
Cheney : 25%
McCain : 18%
Powell : 16%
Dole : 12%
Alexander : 3%

Lamar Alexander  reaches his highest polling numbers in months, but he may drop out very soon says his aide, Kevin Clarke. Powell and Dole make very huge gains in the polls. Dole gives a speech saying that he's back and ready to roll. McCain is very worried as his veteran support is splitting with Cheney and Powell.

June 1995 Sad John McCain decides to focus mainly on New Hampshire to revive his campaign. Powell and Gingrich are focusing in on SC. While Cheney is trying to seize Iowa.

GOP Polls :

Gingrich : 23%
Cheney : 21%
Powell : 20%
McCain : 17%
Dole : 15%
Alexander : 4%

Newt Gingrich realizes that Powell is becoming to powerful too ignore ,Gingrich sends out 20+ ADs attacking Powell on lack of congressional or executive experience. McCain, Dole and Cheney start a attack triangle.

July 1995 Sad Former President Bush endorses Dick Cheney. Bush's son  Jeb Bush endorses Cheney. Fmr President Ronald Reagan decides to endorse Dick Cheney as well.

This gives Cheney a super boost in the polls.

GOP Polls :

Cheney : 30%
Gingrich : 24%
Powell : 17%
McCain : 14%
Dole : 12%
Alexander : 3%

For the first time Newt Gingrich is not leading. Cheney campaigns diligently and very heavily in many toss up states. McCian spent a record amount of $798,001 in New Hampshire this month.

July was a very good month for McCain and Cheney. And a bad one for Powell and Gingrich.

August 1995 Sad After thinking over his campaign Lamar Alexander decides he is done running. Alexander endorses Bob Dole.

GOP Polls :

Cheney : 33%
Gingrich : 25%
Powell : 24%
McCain : 16%
Dole : 2%

Dole gets crushed in a debate. Cheney  does very well. Cheney  decides his lead in Iowa is big enough  and spent less time there.

Powell sees this as a opportunity and spent $198,898 in Iowa this month. McCain focuses on New Hampshire still ,spending a record $ 1,768,767 this month. Everything  McCain is hoping to achieve depends on this small state. Gingrich campaigns heavily in Wyoming and South Carolina. Completely  ignoring Iowa.

On Aug. 23rd another debate was held, Dole wins it by a landslide.

GOP Polls :

Cheney : 23%
Gingrich : 21%
Powell : 20%
McCain : 19%
Dole : 17%

Bob Dole spends the rest of the month attacking Cheney and campaigning in Iowa.

September 1995 Sad In another Debate McCain got shut out by Powell, Cheney and Dole. Gingrich did well ,but not as expected.

GOP Polls :

Cheney : 23%
Gingrich : 19%
Powell : 18%
Dole : 17%
McCain : 16%
Undecided : 7%

McCain insists that he will be coming back ,if he wins NH. Most polls show him dead last in the state. Many laugh McCain off.

November 1995 Sad Nothing  important happened in October ,but in November polls showed McCain going up in Iowa ,South Carolina and rapidly in New Hampshire after a amazing speech on Foreign Policy.

GOP Polls :

Cheney : 25%
Gingrich : 24%
Powell : 19%
McCain : 18%
Dole : 13%

Can high turnout really cause a 36% swing in th polls? It's a good timeline, though!
