This should be interesting.  (past or present office holders)

For me, it's Senator John Kerry.  I think the sun rises and sets on this guy...but I am hard pressed to find anyone who agrees.  Maybe a few Dems will tepidly say, "Yah, he's okay..." but that's about it.

Anyway, that's what I am going for here.  Not answers like "Reagan" or "Obama", because obviously...both have huge cadres of fans.  I suppose Phil might say Rick Santorum or Opebo might say Dennis Kucinich ?  Just guesses...but that's the general gist of the thread.

Have fun.

David Paterson

Has the best sense of humor of any politician I've seen (most of the reason why I like him), and has had a right-ward tilt economically and a leftward one socially since taking office, unfortunately New York would be ungovernable even if superman were in charge and someone as indecisive and with poor political instincts as him doesn't exactly help inspire confidence.

Hmmm...

...er....

...ummm...

...ehhh...

Nope, can't think of anyone.

Oh, I also love Iain Duncan Smith (Member of the British Parliament and former Conservative party leader). I don't know that he's "hated" but he's constantly mocked and criticized for being a "bad leader." It really seems like I'm the only person that likes the guy (though he is sort of rebuilding his credibility on some issues).

Not in real life, but there are very few Romney supporters on this board. Even worse is McCain. Everyone criticized him for being erratic and not calm enough. I liked how emotional he got, I liked that he had many new ideas and didn't mind changing his mind. Most would disagree however (I'm talking about McCain the candidate, not McCain the war hero).

Ron Paul. If the GOP incorporated a mix of his ideas & Gary Johnson's into its platform, it would be a respectable party once again.

Robert Byrd.

I can't describe how much respect I have for him.

Ron Paul & John McCain?  Lots of people on the forum admire those two.

Terry would be an even better example.

I would hardly call isolationism or banning the federal reserve "respectable" positions. Not to mention questionable associations with 9/11 truthers are racists.

As for Gary Johnson is great though, I would love to see him run for president.

I like Byrd a lot, as well.

Of course, there is another even more prominent example...

I've always had soft spots for Robert Byrd ("MIKADO'S A RACIST!" in 5...4...3...) and Howard Dean ("MIKADO'S A RADICAL!" in 5...4...3...).

As for my own personal choices, I dunno really.  Most of the politicians I admire tend to be the rather popular ones.

Santorum and Inhofe.  I can't think of any one who likes them but call me crazy.  I admire people with convinctions and backbone.  Coburn is awesome too but actually a lot of people like him for his views on spending.

Not everything about Paul is great, but he is a lot better than most of the political rabble. Nice to see another Johnson fan, though. Smiley

I think you might win there, although I think David Paterson (my pick) could have worse approvals than Cheney in New York...they'd at least be comparable.

Real brave Mikado sir.  You're the third to mention Byrd and second to say Dean. Smiley  And you called out your opposition that didn't call out the previous posters, way to preempt the late-comers haha.

Paul is absolutely terrible, and this coming from someone who's more of an 'ideologue' than you are. You have to understand the differences between paleo-conservatism and libertarianism to really appreciate that, however.

Paleoconservatism is basically just a flavor of the hyper-traditionalist world view that happens to be rhetorically anti-statist, isn't it? I want nothing of that.
