Actually, if a person's only opposition to murder is based on fear that God might not approve rather than not wishing harm on one's fellow man, that seems to me to be a very shallow morality.

Admittedly, the John 4:20 verse Jmfcst keeps pointing out would support the same point of view - and yet it seems rather common, especially amongst conservative and fundamentalist groups, to hate other individuals within the brotherhood of man. 

In this sense there are many atheists, agnostics, and others who better follow Christ's principles than many of those who claim (or even boast) themselves to be Christian.

(not at all a new concept - see the story of the good Samaritan for a very well known and ancient example)
