I sure hope not. Such a day would be a terrible day in Canadian history.

The Australian example should be a chilling one for the Canadian Greens. In Australia the Greens have won seats in cases where STV has been used (like Tasmania) but I don't believe they have ever won a single member district seat, even though preference voting is used so that people can vote Green 1, Labour 2, and thus not worry about wasting their vote.  So, even without the "wasting your vote" theory to mess things up, they still haven't won anything. Its tough to win when you are a small party without a regional base in SMD elections.

It would be extremely hard for them to do so. They need (a) a relatively marginal seat with a strong Green vote on the onset (b) a well-known and well-liked local candidate and/or (c) a major party to drop out and endorse them [even that doesn't always work, see Central Nova, though that seat does not come even close to condition a].
