TEMO, the second best pollster in Sweden has a poll out today which shows:

S: 33,5% (-4%)

V: 7,3% (+0,3%)

MP: 6,4% (+1,3%

Red-Green opposition: 47,1% (-2,5%)

M: 32,1% (+2,8%)

C: 5,7% (0,0%)

FP: 5,6% (-1,2%)

KD: 3,8% (-0,4%)

Centre-right government: 47,2% (+1,2%)

Sweden Democrats: 3,6% (+0,3%)
Others: 2,1% (+1%)

Note though that KD is below the 4% threshold, so technically, this would still be a win for the left. I doubt KD drops out in the end though. Sahlin has really turned S into a walking disaster. My god...this would be the worse election result ever for S if it were to be realized. I expect M, V and MP to do worse than this by the time of the election while S, KD, C and FP will do better.

Is the fact that the Social Democrats are now a disaster helping the Left or the Greenies much at all?

Yep, as you can see in this poll. V+MP got 11.1% in 2006 and are at 13.7% now. That's almost certainly gains coming from displeased S-voters.

The Swedish right would probably be left-wingers to some degree or another in the United States.

Not likely. It is Sweden after all.

Gustaf is a member of the Swedish right & we see that he's a centrist by American standards. With that much said, in any European country a vote for the mainstream right-wing party/coalition is a vote for sanity.

The Swedish right has tended to move left recently as well (which explains a great part of their recent success). While Hashemite is correct in one sense, it should be noted that most members of the Conservatives that I have met would be Republicans in the US. It's just that it's impossible to sell that message to Swedish swing voters.

Saying that you'd be Republicans in the U.S. would help you with swing voters? Huh Sounds odd to me.

No, it would hurt you. That's why it's not a message you can sell. And that is why the party-line tends to be to the left of the members' opinions.

Okay. Now if the Republicans would adopt a party line to the left of their opinions as well, that would be nice.
