The national unemployment rate was 5.8% in 2008.

There are 3 shades of blue and purple:

Purple (only 1 county in Upper Austria): lowest unemployment, more than 50% lower than the national average
Dark Blue: between 25% and 50% lower than the national average
Light Blue: between national average and 25% lower than the national average

There are 3 shades of red and pink:

Pink: between national average and 25% higher than the national average
Dark Pink: between 25% and 50% higher than the national average
Red: highest unemployment, more than 50% higher than the national average

The national unemployment rate was 7.5% in March.

Remember that the Austrian unemployment rate varies from that in Germany for example.

Austria caluclates the rate without including self-employed in the labor force.

If we include the about 500.000 self-employed, the March rate is down to 6.5%

(EUROSTAT: 4.5%, but EUROSTAT only counts people as unemployed if they have worked less than 1 hour a week)
