An Iraqi football player has been shot dead by a spectator as he was about to score an equalising goal.

The shooting happened in the last minute of a game between two local rivals on Sunday, police say.

The striker was shot in the head during the match in the city of Hilla, according to local security officials.

The game was being played between Sinjar and Buhayra. The suspected killer has been arrested as police carry out an investigation.

Yeah, we don't shoot refs.  That's more of a Latin America kind of thing.  I suppose that is what you could have meant by "Americans".

Looking on the bright side, at least the guy didn't shoot an US soldier.

Just trying to look at it positively...if it is possible in a case like this.

Dunno why, I expected it would be you who would answer that remark.

Well, no, by "Americans" I referred to the guys of your country. And I referred, to the image that you and your army have in the world, I mean the cliché of modern cow-boys who use to practice the "first you shoot, then you speak". That's an image we've here of one part of the population of your country. I know that's a cliché, but as every cliché that has some real background.

Frankly, I'm not that kind of basher of Americans, and you have to know that this is a kind of national sport here, especially for those who are more that 30/40 years, but when we see say Texans with their moustache and their sunglasses who grow the balls because of the gun they walk with at the belt, when we see rates of police/criminals shootings of your country, or when I remember the comparison of methods between French and US army by Afghani civilians that I saw in a TV report (in short French were less brutal, and overall, they tried to speak with the people of houses they patrolled in, when US ones entered, put the mess, and went off). I don't say all Americans are like that, that's a trend of your society, that's all.

That's what I meant by "They learn fast from Americans", and I added bad joke, because I know the job of US boys in war grounds is not easy, and that there are good guys who try to do their best, and overall, because a guy is dead in that story.

Then, that's said you're right, I wouldn't be surprised if I heard it happens in Latin America.
