I think the title speaks for itself.

Agree or disagree with the content of the article, Frank Schaeffer, as a former Republican, seems genuinely disgusted with the current state of his former party. And that spontaneity and outspokeness makes for some powerful reading.

Whose this guy again? Awfully big ego (calling his rant a "sermon") on this one.

His father and others helped with the rise of the religious right 30-ish years ago.

If you bothered to actually read the article you wouldn't ask that question.

Someone is projecting obviously.

I did read the article. Looks like he wrote some books, ranting about the religious and the GOP. Ok...?

If you mean that he isn't as famous as Elisabeth Hasselbeck, hence he has no right to criticize the GOP, then I will concede you that point.

I Purple heart disingenous hacks.

I never once questioned his right to do whatever he's doing. I just don't see the point of this topic. So the guy is another ranting Republican hater. He harps on the same old points. Big deal.

Lots of "former Republicans" are currently partisan Democrats.  This guy is clearly just trying up his media presence to book more shows and sell more books.

Frank Schaeffer only claims to be a "former Republican" so that he can demonize the party; he never should have been a Republican in the first place. His "sermon" is worthless propaganda and is full of unhealthy language. Then again, it is Huffington Post. This is exactly what I expected; the title does speak for itself.

What a fail. Democrats criticized Bush and the Iraq War, (I disagree with the war, it was a massive failure and a waste of time) and now republicans are criticizing President Obama's handling of the economy, knowing his policies will fail, and now they are traitors? Double-standard.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolyn_McCarthy

Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) was a registered Republican until 2002, had formally run for office as a Republican, but has been the most anti-gun advocate in all of Congress as a Democratic Congresswoman since '96.  I mean, how many hundreds of thousands of people have changed their registration in the last two years?  Do they have any special credentials?

This guy has ok credentials, his Dad was of the Goldwater/Buckley crowd, and obviously Buckley's son endorsed Obama too, he's just clearly passionately uncomfortable/angry with social issues being used as wedge issues to drive people apart.  But yeah, he's also got a book to sell and he needs to have angry headlines to generate buzz to sell them books
