Palin 29%
Huckabee 26%
Romney 21%
Jindal 9%
Other 10%

And something that I found very interesting:
"Among GOP men, the same pattern emerges — no clear advantage for Palin, Huckabee or Romney,” says Holland. “But among Republican women, it's a different story. Palin has a 10-point edge among Republican women, winning 32 percent support among them to 22 percent for Huckabee and 20 percent for Romney.

Wow. Fully 55% of the Republican party supports either Palin or Huckabee as their first choice.

It looks like the religious wing has officially hijacked the party. Palin AND Huckabee on the top? Good luck with that.

Yay! I don't know if I'm happier that Palin is first or that Romney is third.

This poll is a recipe for landslide 2012 if true. Either that or armageddon. Could go either way at this point.

Palin would get creamed in the GE, thankfully.

We don't even know if Palin or Huckabee will run for the nom, and if they do I don't think they will win. Also right now its just any polls will be base off who is better known.

I would think that, among Republican primary voters, Palin, Huckabee and Romney have similar name recognition.

ok the election is over.  we might as well not have one at this point.

Come on, guys.  There are 4 years until the election, and it's not like CNN is a godsend pollster.  This thread reeks of wishful thinking.

Party's over.
This is about name rec. Romney is, basically, being rejected by a wide coalition (both religiouses who don't like a Mormon, and moderates who don't like what he stands for politically. And probably working class voters in general, too.) and Huckabee and Palin are the other remaining leaders with 100% name rec.

Remember when Democrats on this forum "feared Huckabee" ...
Uh, no. The only candidate anybody "feared" is the one you actually got.

The Hard Right has maintained and even intensified its control of the political equivalent of the SS Titanic as it approaches the iceberg. Its crew thinks that if it only scrapes against the iceberg the ship won't sink.

Obama '12 = Eisenhower '56.
GOP '12 = SS Titanic '12?

This is the normal response. By the way, as the former running mate in a poll just four months after the election, Palin ought to be up by a lot more than three points (especially for someone so beloved by the party faithful).

I'd love to see how Maxine Waters would fare against them 2.

Uh? LOL @ the thought of her winning anything more than two states and DC.

No, we thought that John McCain, the one with the war record, the one with no cause for glaring regional weaknesses, and the one without controversial religious connections had a better chance than the others.

But back in 2000 enough Republicans fell for the devious push poll that John McCain had a black baby under less-than-admirable circumstances. The circumstances proved something else -- and something honorable. We ended up with a dishonorable man who became President.  If only we had known about the frogs and firecrackers and the trashed hotel room...

McCain would have won against Gore in 2000 without any shenanigans in Florida. He could have been a reasonably-good President, unlike the one that we ended up with.

Twas a joke... but I still find this result quite disheartening. If Palin/Huckabee can beat Romney (the candidates with near universal name recognition) 55-21, there is something wrong with the party.

Any comparisons with Lieberman and Frist are somewhat misleading.

1)Lieberman emerged from the 2000 campaign with rather low favorability between the Democrats. He was even considered one of the reasons why Gore lost the election, due to his underwhelming performance at the Vice-Presidential debate. And of course, his subsequent support of Bush and the Iraq war made sure that he would go nowhere in the 2004 primary.

Palin on the other hand, emerged widely popular among her base, despite the loss. And since the election she has shown no signs of support towards the Obama administration.

2)Frist as majority leader in the senate had produce legislation and cast a lot of tricky votes after 2004. The fact that he failed to do the former hurt his chances.

But Huckabee and Romney don't hold any public office. They have the luxury of sitting on the sidelines and talking, without having to worry about votes, executive decisions and compromises, like the other contenders who are sitting Governors and Senators.
