I think I did something similar to this a few years back, but decided to do a newer version.  Post the pics of the most expensive homes in your neighborhood.

Pic is from 01 back when it was being built, according to the Nassau County Dept of Assessment, its worth $3,074,900 as of last month

Next door brand new home just built, pic is from October, worth a bit over $2.3 million according to the Nassau County Assessment Dept.  Though it has been torn down and rebuilt this is supposidly where Carlo Gambino once lived, he had another waterfront home in Massapequa as well.

Both of those homes are waterfront homes in the Biltmore Shores section of Massapequa, more than likely they would be able to fetch quite a bit more than the assessed values even in the current climate

One of, but might not be the most expensive home currently on the market 2.1 million also in the Biltmore Shores section

Depending on how you define neighborhood..anywhere from $250k to well into the millions.  My neighborhood is nothing fancy, one of the worst in the school district.  But it's one of the best school districts in an area full of great school districts.  A lot of the Omaha "old" money live in the district.

There's a house down the street from mine that sold for 5.7 million recently, mich to the delight of the locals here. I don't have a picture of it as I'm at school right now. The property value here hasn't been hurt by our tough times even if the resort has been.

What a depressing topic.  Nationalize these houses, or raze them.

The houses that I posted are on the other side of town about a 10-12 minute drive from my house (4.5 miles or so)   The area I live in is much more middle class & the homes range from about 350-750 with most in the 400's to low 500's (down about 15-20% from a few years ago)

No, but his buddies do.  He actually lives in a slightly worse part of town.  (his immediate area is fine, but you don't have to go very far to find poor...but that's true of where I live too.

I'm bad at posting images. If another poster can post these that'd be awesome.

Currently the most expensive house in Englewood on sale at Yahoo Real Estate:

http://realestate.yahoo.com/New_Jersey/Englewood/191-brayton-st:4e95f9052ee18978fa74406627f379;_ylt=An87MpLfUi3EZSTq3vDsMghn47Qs

191 Brayton St, Englewood, NJ, aka Bubble Hill. Formerly belonged to Eddie Murphy. $15.9 million. Fuzzy picture below.

Edit: Better link to Bubble Hill: http://vt.realbiz360.com/MLS-48264.html

This is about a five minute drive from my house, although it's worlds away. Cross Engle St and everything changes. I walk or jog by it sometimes if I'm going on a long-ish walk or run.

I'd imagine it would be somewhere in the low millions, since the council has pretty much done everything in their power to build McMansions instead of apartment buildings.

Most expensive home for sale in my college neighborhood:

http://realestate.yahoo.com/Louisiana/New_Orleans/1662-state-st:8ff33b778e8f83f98b5787ecf950b882;_ylt=ApZHOa9hCtQ2JVC_XU2QaUNn47Qs

$3 million.

five minute walk from my dorm. It's not nearly the most expensive house in the area, though; within a few blocks from that house there some that are easily worth $10 million.

Most expensive home in my immediate Georgia neighborhood:

http://www.versaillesdreamhomes.com/Lot6v.htm

$1.7 million, after several big price cuts.

I can actually see this one from my house. Interesting juxtaposition of suburban and rural, too, as this gated community is right next to both a pasture and a small trailer park.

It's one of three houses that got built in this super-expensive Versailles neighborhood before the market busted. They've remained unpurchased (and the remaining lots still undeveloped) for a while now.

Oh, and the blue cone on top used to be covered with gold foil. I'm assuming they took it down because it was too pretentious/a safety hazard for drivers.

Within a five minute drive of my house, there's this huge mansion on a hill called "Castle Gibson" that I can't find anywhere on the internet. I'd guess it costs something like $20 million, not counting the fifty acres (or so) its on. Some rich dude's country retreat out of the city, I guess.

Most in the neighbourhood are worth between 300.000-800.000 US-$. I think a few are worth 1 Mio. $

In the City of Salzburg there are some 5 Mio. $ homes (villas) as well, according to real estate sites ...

That settles it. Rich people have no taste.

---

And I don't know. It's mostly renting here. There are some expensive houses in Bangor (though not, I suspect, compared to the price tags of some of the horrors on this thread... unless (lol) you count Penrhyn Castle and that's a National Trust property these days), but not in anything that could sanely be called my neighbourhood.

I doubt there's any particularly expensive houses in my neighborhood. The ones here are no dobut far more expensive than similar-sized ones in other areas, but we don't have any big enough to be >$1 million. Maybe $500k tops.

By the way, Lief, whereabouts in Gtown is that monstrosity?  When I think of expensive Georgetown houses, i think of the much nicer, smaller ones on O Street.

Now that I look it up, this is the most expensive at almost $800k:

However only 6 others cost $500k or higher (I suppose you could add another one since there's a $499k one.)

I actually have no idea, I don't think I've ever seen it. I just searched on Yahoo for the most expensive houses in DC and that one came up.

And yeah, I much prefer the smaller townhouses. I wouldn't mind living in one of those one day, if I ever have millions of dollars to spend.

Thanks for putting the pics up. I live right near White Station Middle, so I'm just over the line in 38120. My neighborhood looks a lot more like 38117 (postwar suburbia) than a lot of the newer 38120 east of 240.
