This is tough I really like both them. But I guess I'd go with Phil. I am not as familiar with Torie's leanings as I am with Phil.

This poll would be like an all party GOP nominee poll of Sanford vs. Hagel. Hagel would win huge because people voting aren't all Republicans.

Phil easily.

I'd go with Phil in this one because Torie violated the sacred rule and crossed over in this election! As a result, he will receive most of the blame if this stimulus bill passes.

I seem to recall that you were considering voting for Obama at a point and that you also said that you'd be open to voting for his re-election.

Just out of curiosity, why are you so sure McCain would not have pushed a stimulus package, Duke?  In any event, as I posted when I explained my choice for prez, my difficult decision to cross party lines was by and large not policy driven; it was more about  management style. And so far, my instinct on this has proved to have some nexus with reality - in my opinion of course.

Phil is a great guy however, and a worthy choice for anyone's vote!

Other than 2008 vote choice, do Phil and Torie really disagree on that many issues?

Gay marriage, and first trimester abortions, come to mind. I suspect that I am also more tolerant of a relatively more robust social safety net, but I could be wrong.

We are probably pretty close on foreign policy, trade (assuming Phil is in favor of free trade), and school vouchers, public employee unions, and tort lawyers. Phil might be liberal than me on the death penalty, but I am not sure. Phil is a more loyal Republican I guess, but than I was at his age!

And then of course Phil believes in God, and well, I await a leap of faith for that. And so it goes.

I'm not running for the Atlas Forum GOP Primary, am I? Wink

And you're right. If the GOP nominates a populist in the Palin or Huckabee mold, I will most certainly consider voting for Obama, depending on how he does during his first term.

That's something we'll never know. It is highly possible that McCain may have pushed for a stimulus of some sort. I do agree we need some sort of stimulus, but the current incarnation of this monster isn't something I want to pass. We need a more efficient, targeted bill. 3/4 of the bill as it stands won't do much of anything to stimulate our economy! It's useless garbage which won't go into effect till late this year or early next year.

To some extent, Obama winning may turn out to be a blessing in itself if the Republicans finally find their fiscal restraint once again. I welcome that resurrection.

I favor free trade and I support the death penalty.
