I don't know how many of you here are familiar with Y the Last Man, a comic book that was first released in September of 2002 and ended its run approximately 5 and a half years later.

What happens in this story is that all the men in the world inexplicably die.

My question is what would have happened if such a scenario had indeed come true?

I would be interesting in hearing what everyone thinks.

If we take a look at the US government, Gale Norton, at the time Sec. of the Interior, would have been the new President of the United States.  The only cabinet members still alive would have been Ann Veneman (Sec. of Agriculture) and Elaine Chao (Sec. of Labor).  Christine Whitman (Administrator of the EPA) was the only other Cabinet-level appointee that was a woman.
The Senate would have been left with 13 members and a Democratic majority.  President pro tempore would have been Barbara Mikulski.
The 13 members would have been:
Blanche Lincoln D
Dianne Feinstein D
Barbara Boxer D
Mary Landrieu D
Olympia Snowe R
Susan Collins R
Barbara Mikulski D (President)
Debbie Stabenow D
Jean Carnahan D
Hilary Clinton D
Kay Bailey Hutchison R
Patty Murray D
Maria Cantwell D

The House would have left with 58+2 members (the two were non voting members from DC and the Virgin Islands.  The Democrats would have a 38-20 majority (40-20 if you add the non-voting members).  The number of representatives from each state:
California 18 (15-3)
Colorado 1
Connecticut 2
Florida 4
Georgia 1
Hawaii 1
Illinois 2
Indiana 1
Kentucky 1
Maryland 1
Michigan 2
Minnesota 1
Missouri 2
Nevada 1
New Jersey 1
New Mexico 1
New York 6
North Carolina 2
Ohio 3
Pennsylvania 1
Texas 2
Virginia 1
Washington 1
West Virginia 1
Wisconsin 1
Wyoming 1
DC 1
US Virgin Islands 1

Any thoughts on what might have happened next?
