If Huckabee were the Republican nominee in 2012, what would happen in Utah?

He would do much better than McCain did in 2008.

Mormons are chill with protestant fundamentalists, but not the other way around.  Huckabee fares well despite hating them.

If the Hick is nominated in 2012, the Democrats should secretly back a 527 called "Utahns for Religious Tolerance." This group's sole purpose would be to blanket the state's airwaves with ads attacking Huck for his many anti-Mormon statements ("Don't they believe that Jesus and the Devil are brothers?"). At the very least, it would be hilarious to watch the GOP have to fight for Utah. Smiley

Utah is pretty fun. Mormonism is simply a center-right on things like stem-cell research, abortion and economics. They are pro-life, but look at this-

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/epolls/#UTREP

Always Legal (3%) N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A
Mostly Legal (9%) N/A 1% 20% 3% 75%
Mostly Illegal (76%) 0% 1% 3% 3% 94%
Always Illegal (11%) N/A 9% 7% 3% 81%

What other anti-Mormon statements has he made? I remember the Jesus-Devil-brothers one, but I never heard any others. I'm not trying to imply he's never made any others, I'm just curious.

Huh, that's funny. I decided to check out Mississippi for comparison:

Always Legal (6%) N/A N/A N/A
Mostly Legal (18%) 9% 80% 9%
Mostly Illegal (42%) 10% 81% 3%
Always Illegal (30%) 21% 71% 5%

They're more likely to be pro-choice, but also more likely to be radically pro-life.

IMO favoring any restrictions on abortion and saying it/campaigning on it is directly equivilent to inciting domestic abuse against women
