Some depend on who wins.

EDIT: Strike Kennedy and Sandlin, they're done.

Brian Schweitzer represents the best hope for the Democratic Party to expand westward and truly establish itself once more as the dominant Party in American politics. He is the way forward.

Feingold is the only one who would have a chance to make me care.  Gore too, in a different way, but that ship likely has sailed.

I know, I am no Democrat, but I will still chip in and give my opinion.

Warner: probably not
Schweitzer: probably not
Hagan: absolutely not
Perdue: probably not
Clinton: absolutely not
Biden: probably not
Mark Udall: probably not
Tom Udall: absolutely not
Stephanie Sandlin is the representative, not governor. I suspect that you are intentionally talking of her as having a higher office than what she actually has. Anyway, probably not.
Merkley: absolutely not
McCaskill: probably not
Richardson: absolutely not

Tim Kaine (the other VA Democrat governor) is one of the few Democrats that I could vote for (and even then it would depend on other factors such as the Republican candidate), but you did not include him. So I probably will respond with "Other".

The only problem with him is that he is not a pretty man, and is likely to be considerably less so in 2016. We need someone with a similar ideological mindset and a similar political background out West, but who is much more photogenic. Or he needs to accept a Vice-Presidential slot for that similar Westerner, or he needs to be made to diet.

I can see a Warner vs. Schweitzer showdown. Kind of an Eastern elite politician vs. fun-loving Westerner kind of election. Very similar to a Romney vs. Huckabee election on the Republican side. I don't know who would win.

Bayh would be the only other name I can see in the running. Very Clintonesque in policy, I could see the Democrats look to that kind of figure after Obama.

when I think of who has a chance to become president, I just say this:

EX:

President Obama Said Today
President McCain said today
President Clinton Said today

that is how I figured Obama would win in the end.

Now try

President Warner Said today
President Schweitzer said todat
President Herseth Sandlin said today

President Clinton has worked before. Why wouldn't it work again?

By this account Huckabee and Romney have no shot against Palin.

Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton, I took that as a factor. President Romney sounds alright. President Palin sounds good to. (but not for the sake of my country, Palin.)

Don't be. Many of the Warner people on this site left after his speech at the DNC (many cited boredom) and gravitated towards Schweitzer. there actually similar. A poll in March (on this site) Showed Warner ripping the competion to shreds. He had 14 to 3 lead over the others, the closest being Spitzer, but with 7 for other.

Stephanie Herseth Sandlin would probably go by only one of her last names if she ran.
Obviously, the name Warner sounds the most presidential. President Schweitzer doesn't sound that bad, honestly.

For me, I'd like either Schweitzer or Warner. Sandlin is a bit too conservative for me. I hope that Obama replaces Biden with either of them in 2012, and whoever he chooses would be the likely nominee. I don't want to see Clinton get the nomination, and I honestly think she would be too old anyway.

For reference, on election day 2016, these people will be:

Biden: 73
Clinton: 69
Warner: 62
Schweitzer: 61
Bayh: 60
Sandlin: 45

I think that it shall probably be Warner vs. Schweitzer, which would probably we won by Warner unless Schweitzer was the VP under Obama. Sandlin will still be pretty young. Her time would likely come later, but who knows.

As am I; although Schweitzer is good, Warner is 1,000X better.

Mark Udall would be a better candidate than Schweitzer IMO.  Just watch this video and tell me the average American wouldn't find this guy likable:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaTojwO1eHc

I also voted for McCaskill because I like her and because there will be at least one strong female candidate.

Biden and Clinton are the only names I checked, not because I dislike any of the other choices...but because I want to see them develop.  I want to see what kind of Governor, Senator or cabinet member they will be.

There's lots of love for Schweitzer and certainly not without good reason.  But am I the only Democrat to be unimpressed with his hoo-rah at the Convention?  What's he doing in Montana?  That's what I need to read up on before ticking off his name.

The only one I say NO to is Richardson.  And believe it or not, I would have said that long before his recent withdrawal from the nomination process.  Richardson is the guy is really, really WANT to like but never have been able to.  He's bumbled and stumbled his way through debates and campaigns.  And to me, he came off sounding, at least, only slightly smarter than Sarah Palin.  I love his resume.  But meh -- I think I'll pass.

I'm of the opinion that there will be a lot of different names on this list in eight years.  Of course, the Udall name is new.  Well -- "new" in its current manifestation.  And if they turn out to be the liberals and environmentalists Mo was...you can count me in.  But there could be so many others.  How will Ken Salazar have fared as a cabinet boss?  Are there Governors like Manchin, Beebe, Ritter and O'Malley who will seem like attractive options?

We'll just have to see.

And of course, there will ALWAYS be Mike Gravel.  Sure, he'll be 106 and nuttier than ever.  But what good is a three-ring circus without a few clowns?

JS, how are you not impressed by Warner's record?  He managed to turn Virginia around following the Allen and Gilmore years, and would've been reelected in a landslide if Virginia law allowed it.  I think he's more impressive than most of the other people, and would be young enough to run in 2016, unlike Biden and Hillary.

The Democrats need a female candidate as smart and articulate as Sarah Palin.
