I totally forgot about this. It apparently went on without any issues but I'd still like to see it. I'm sure C-SPAN.org has a video of it.

Anyone see it? From the clip I saw on CNN, it looked like Cheney was actually enjoying it and Congressman Bob Brady of South Philly - one of the Democratic tellers - made it clear that he's still a bumbling buffoon.

Nope. All was in order.

I hear some jokes were made, such as when Ohio appeared to be all in order the entire floor erupted in laughter and cheering.

Yeah, that's the clip CNN showed.

Gore was VP and therefore President of the Senate at the time, which means he was in charge of the floor when votes were read. He actually had to call the floor to order and calm many Democrats that were attempting to block the reading of Florida's votes.

Totally dishonest portrayal, of course. I love how Moore showed the members of the Congressional Black Caucus being told to "sit down and shut up" but he never mentioned why they were out of order.

Yeah, it was amazing. Too bad C-SPAN doesn't have the video online anymore. I loved seeing that. I loved when he had to tell that clown Maxine Waters that, even though she didn't care about her objection lacking the signature of a Senator, "the rules do care." Gore literally shrugging off Jesse Jackson, Jr.'s complaints was also amazing.

It's so wrong that I take so much pleasure in seeing Gore go through that.  Tongue

Wow, I had forgotten all about that. All the objecting representatives refer to Al Gore as "Mr. President." Sigh.

Actually, upon further review, I have to correct myself: Moore does mention that the objections had to be signed by just one Senator. I just always remembered him pointing out how they were gaveled out of order, as if it was done without proper reasoning.

Well, they had to since he was President of the Senate. I remember seeing this on the news the day it happened and thought they were doing it as if to say he was the rightful President. Alcee Hastings does make a comment along those lines though.

For anyone interested, here's the part from Fahrenheit 9/11 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6wl_86qnsI&feature=related

The C-SPAN version in its entirety (the entire nearly 2 hours of the count) can be found here:

http://www.c-spanarchives.org/library/index.php?main_page=product_video_info&products_id=161423-1

Took some digging.

EDIT: For those who want to skip to the good stuff, the Florida count begins 29 minutes in.

Oh, wow! I have been looking for this for years. They have it under their general search but the video has expired. This is amazing. Thanks again!

They really couldn't get a single senator to sign their objection? How is that possible?

Because there was no valid reason to.

But a Democratic senator could have easily sympathized and signed it. I just find it surprising that they couldn't find one.

Tell that to Barbara Boxer in 2004.

I'm sure they had strict marching orders from leadership and even from Gore personally to let it go. It had to be over. It was bad enough for Gore that he had to even listen to the objections.

If I were Gore, I'd have shut them up sooner, not for personal reasons, but because they were butchering the rules of order.

Two of the members at the time that objected weren't black. I know the late Congresswoman Mink was one and then there was some white guy.

Is it just me, or did Gore acknowledge McKinney as being from FL, not GA at one point?
