My apologies if somebody else normally does these, but I don't think anybody has the last couple of amendments.

Here's the Amendment that the Senate just passed:

Quote

And here's how it's going in the voting booths:

Northeast: 4-3-2
Southeast: 2-4
Mideast: 5-6-1
Midwest: 4-2-2
Pacific: 3-2

CURRENT STATUS: FAILED

Can someone explain the two sides to this. I get the "Nay" vote because there is definitely room to abuse this, while, if votes were to be publicized later, it defeats the purpose.

Wha is the "Aye" vote's claim?

There mostly people won't be like entertain.  They don't want the election results public for everyone to follow because people can game the system.  Mostly a lot of people are pissed that myself, SPC, and PiT outsmarted them

There are rare occasions in IRV and STV systems where invalidating your vote actually helps your second preferred candidate. At times this opportunity has been abused, and this would help rectify it.

Also the whole notion of voter privacy (something which I happen to like).

But wouldn't you have to tell someone your vote? And how would you prove that all votes were valid and counted? It seems far to abuseable.

The Secret Ballot Act mandates that all secret ballots be PMed to both the Secretary of Forum Affairs and the Attorney General. All votes sent by PM must be published by the SoFA after the election and the AG has responsibility to provide oversight to this process. Both the SoFA and AG are required to not release any information regarding any votes and would face potentially strict penalties for doing so.

Well, as you can see in the count, early results are indicating that this Amendment is going to have some troubles passing.  Currently it's failing in one region and is tied in 2 regions (failing), while 2 regions are yet to have the booths opened.  Kudos, by the way, to Governor Afleitch for swiftly opening the Mideast voting booth.

The proposal removes an ugly opportunity for currently (barely Tongue ) legal fraud (you guys were hardly the first to get screamed at for doing that) while making elections even MORE entertaining - people will now have the choice to either vote secretly - but their votes will be revealed later - or openly. Anyone wanting to track election results while the poll booth is open will have to base his figures on partial results and perhaps on guesstimates who else might have voted and who for.

I think the voting booths, if this passes, should also be poll threads. Obviously anyone can vote on those so they shouldn't represent the official count, but it would give everyone a better idea of the flow of things.

After the morning update, the amendment is now failing in all 5 regions.  It's still pretty early, but it looks as if this isn't going to pass.

Yeah, it is. Like Lewis said, this would make elections even more interesting, especially for the Atlasian media, who would have to work harder to project races.

Much too early to say.

Obviously it will fail in the Southeast.
I have faith in the Midwestern electorate to do the right thing. I think it should also pass in the Northeast. The Pacific is unknowable but I remain hopeful. The Mideast should be very close either way and probably uncallable until late into the 7 day voting period.

The amendment did make some slight gains today, the most notable of which was the Pacific switching from a tie vote to passing the amendment by 1 vote.  Of course, it's still early, and there are still lots of votes to be cast.

Sometimes. Sometimes they're ridiculously easy. Tongue

My point is, at worst, elections stay as fun/interesting. At best, they become more fun/interesting.

Not really.  I mean, imagine the last election if we didn't know what a few votes were... there would have to be so many "conditional predictions" I don't think anyone would've attempted to forecast the results at all.

Today, voting slowed down a bit, and the Amendment is now failing in all 5 regions again.

Because the constitution says three-fourths of the regions have to approve, is that rounding up to 4 out of the 5 or down to only 3?

Hmmm. I kind of like knowing the results as things progress; however, if people desire to vote secretly, their right to do so privately should be valued above one's "right" to see how others voted. OK, that was easier than I thought.
